Okay, I'm meta-gaming and I don't intend to steal unless I feel like it'd be for a good reason. For this reason I have no intention of actually doing quests for the Thieves' Guild.

So I'm in the Thieves' Guild area, trying to kill them (because even if you TELL Andre that you KNOW EXACTLY WHERE THE THIEVES ARE LOCATED he does nothing but tell you to single-handedly wipe them out[Which really begs the question: What DO the militia do!?])...

I managed to take out the first guy (I've already forgotten his name), he was tough and could have easily ended me in two swings but I got him down eventually...

Then I went up against Cassia. -_-

It is impossible. She has to be one of the strongest NPCs in the game. I have over 200 life with 35 melee protection and she consistently crushes me in a single casual swing.

Is this REALLY a quest to get accepted as a mere MILITIA officer!?

I love her. She's probably most badass lady in the whole Gothic universe (not that there are many notable women).
You either need to be a guru with timing your attack, or you need to get your level up a bit if you expect to have the slightest chance against her.
Sure, you could get extra help: scrolls of ice block + summon skeleton help.

Pity you don't wan't to learn open locks. There is a huge amount of goodies in chests (amulet of STR for example [+10 STR in thieves guild area]) and quite some quest items are hidden inside chests or behind locked doors. It's not worth it not to pick them up.

About not stealing: I can't see why you can't be a good paladin during daytime, and empty their coffers during nighttime, but it's your call.

O_O. Okay, so the intention of the people designing this mission is NOT for you to defeat the Thieves' Guild to become a Militiaman. Becoming a Militiaman is a level 5-10 quest. She is LEVEL FIFTY. HOLY CRAP ON A STICK. I might learn to pick locks eventually, there are plenty of locked chests not in owned places, and I have no compunctions about stealing from the dead. Well I'm just role-playing, I don't feel like stealing for the most part, so I just won't. I'm sure I will be a thief in future games, but probably not here.
