I'm not sure if this qualifies as any kind of confirmation, but I have tested the game on 9800 GTX+ (Nvidia), 8800 GTX (Nvidia), HD2600 (ATI), HD4870 (ATI) and HD5850 (ATI). All running on Windows 7. My unfortunate conclusion is that the game simply doesn't run properly on Nvidia cards on Windows 7.
The reason why I even began to test all the GFX cards out I could get my hands on is that I used to have the 9800 GTX+ and I simply couldn't run the game. Then I upgraded to HD5850 and gave my old 9800 GTX+ to my little sister. Well, as my little sister doesn't play too much I agreed to switch it to HD2600, and I downloaded Two Worlds and Gorky 17 on my little sisters computer as she likes RPG's (Sorry Team-GoG! I promise you if she starts playing them I will buy and gift those games for her!) to test out if the HD2600 even works properly. Well it did, and it ran Gorky 17 without any kinds of problems, and on Windows 7.
That got me wondering, why on earth I couldn't run the game on 9800 GTX+ if she can run it on HD 2600, both running Windows 7? The problem can't be on Windows 7 then. So I took a shot and tried it on my Windows 7 partition (Instead of my XP partition I usually use for GoG games), using the HD 5850 that I just bought. No problems, it ran just fine (If you disregard the 1 frame black screen flashes, that I couldn't figure out).
Now you are maybe thinking "So what? What does that prove?" Well, nothing on itself to tell the truth. But I borrowed HD 4870 from my neighbor and the game ran just fine, and then I borrowed 8800 GTX from another neighbor and it didn't run. "So what? That doesn't prove anything!" No it doesn't. I'm running AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black (3.5Ghz) processor, so I took the liberty to test all the graphics cards on all the machines. You know what? It doesn't matter if you are running Intel or AMD, Vista or Windows 7, it seems you are going to have problems with Nvidia cards.
I don't claim to know why, my best guess would be the drivers, but I know for a fact that the game runs just fine on Windows 7 if you are running ATI card. If you don't believe me, just try it.
I hope the GoG team get some useful info from this. You can probably see that the game has been downloaded from my account to multiple IP addresses, this was purely for testing as I have deleted the Gorky 17 from all other computers (excluding my little sisters computer). If she starts actually playing it (She said it seems interesting, but she's 13 years old and has never played games so I'm not so sure) I'll buy it for her, same with Two Worlds.
Oh GoG Gods, please don't damn me to eternal hellfire of no Good old Games for my actions! I bow down to you and kiss your feet, AND I DEMAND the Lands of Lore series and System Shock 1 & 2 to GoG. Oh and Larry games would be friggin' awesome too. Oh and Oil Imperium! Anyone remember that? Oh yeah, I was saying.. I AM SORRY! IT WAS ALL FOR SCIENCE!!
