program briefly flashes a black screen and then quits to desktop with no messages.
program has been tried with and without k-lite codec pack AND setting ffdshow video & audio encoders to ignore gorky17.exe

I have the same problems, and I followed all of the tips from this forum. Gorky 17 is the game for which I have joined GOG. The furthest point I went in the game is the first second of the first movie. While the screen remains blank, the game stops responding.
