There are now more and more games sold on GOG that require GOG Galaxy for internet multiplayer, telling that you need to be logged into GOG Galaxy to use this feature.

There are two general issues with this:

First, GOG still states that GOG Galaxy is fully optional, which is now becoming a plain lie. Requiring GOG Galaxy and a logged-in GOG account is no longer something I consider DRM-free - once either my account or GOG itself are gone, these games will be broken.

Second, there doesn't seem to be any plan to release Galaxy on Linux, which is quite a shame given how any games on GOG run natively on this OS. As a Linux C++ dev, I really know the pains with supporting a wide range of distributions, but most of these issues are solved in modern, recent distros, and there's mostly no need to support ancient GCC or glibc versions since most gamers will keep their OS up to date.

Bottom line is, for me it really starts to look like CD Projekt is slowly turning their tide from a true DRM-free multi-platform shop to another Steam/uPlay/Origin/EpicLauncher thingy. I hope I'll be proven wrong. I'd even actively support developing/testing GOG Galaxy for Linux if that would actually be possible (also open-sourcing GOG Galaxy could really help with that).

Yeah, I don't really understand why GOG galaxy becomes mandatory for some multiplayer game and it is also worrying me a lot.
I guess that it is to provide developers an easy alternative to steam multiplayer API but I really hope that gog makes this API open so that we could implement it for using on LAN (sadly this option slowly disappear on recent games
Maybe the steam multiplayer API is also the reason behind the lack of multiplayer FPS on gog
Open sourcing the galaxy client (or at least part of it), would also mean that you don't have to package it for the distributions as official or community maintainers will do it themselves for each distribution.

Since few years I stopped supporting GOG, because I didn't get a Linux native GOGGalaxy.
When announcing Galaxy 2.0, I had hope for a linux native (new features and bla bla). The fact is I got just disappointment, sadly.
GOG Galaxy for Linux is currently listed as "In Progress."

It has been marked 'in progress' for for over 6 years now, Galaxy for Linux will never be released.
We do not need this DRM engine on Linux.

There, fixed it for you. :)
Can we just all agree to start a collective bot farm to flood GOG forums and wishlist with new topics and new requests for linux support OR to open source Galaxy? They have to cave eventually, right? I mean, seriously, Steam is supporting Linux, the least GOG can do is let US support Linux, the dense fools.

what's the point? do you want yet another predatory drm app on your Linux PC?
I wanted to play gwent and guess what? instead of game installation it has just galaxy. that means a loophole in gog's defenses because they made extra effort to hide windows galaxy installation from Linux users. do you want to get anything from a company with such attitude towards their consumer base? do you want to depend on launcher when they borked old one and hid new one to make sure you won't use it? 1.2 no longer runs in wine, tries to update and hangs there, 2.0 is hidden unless you can leech it from drm-ed dame like gwent

how many times one should be slapped to understand what's going on? gwent is out of limits for Linux user and I haven't seen any other store app to remove game files from downloads in favor of their launcher. it reminds of all these fake sites where they kinda give you an app but in reality you're getting executable with viruses. same tactics.

Yeah... I'm a little bit in the same boat. Yes, GOG is DRM free and all but convenience of runninga game is also nice, and after getting Steam Deck, even though I prefer getting games on GOG, I'm leaning more towards getting them on Steam because... I'll be able to just run them without any hassle...

Linux is growing rapidly. take in-count that a large portion of "Unknown" is in fact Linux.
Chrome OS is also Linux and soon™, Chrome OS will become a proper distro.

Linux will be overtaking MacOS in the next 5-10y, chop chop.
