Hi,
Was very eager to test GOG2 and to threw steam into the trash can finally and still be able to play some games I like.
Unfortunately GOG2 offers me nothing better than GOG1. Its even worse because it doesn't support community and it requires you to log in each time you play. Also, the damn steam is working anyway so instead of one spying crap I had two.
Blind road monsieurs.

Steam has integrated DRM for every game you own on the platform. So obviously there is no way to launch Steam games without interacting with it's client in some way.

What you are describing is literally piracy.
if you hate steam that much (I'm not judging :)) maybe you can find this little tool useful
https://gitlab.com/Mr_Goldberg/goldberg_emulator
it allows to run steam games protected by steamworks DRM without steam client. I doubt you can integrate it into galaxy client as steam games, maybe linking such games as custom ones should do.

Nice find, thanks but the doc states that it only emulates Steam online features and only works for games without DRM - any contradicting first hand experience ?

I have used it to check Hero of the Kingdom 3 because it had issues running on Linux box (that one failed because of the game), then I tried it with couple of other steam games and it worked fine. Currently playing Holy Potatoes a Weapon Shop in emulator, works fine.
basically if game does not have own DRM you can run it by replacing couple of files, if it has anything custom integrated into its code it will fail.
there's a list of DRM free games on steam, you can check which games protected by steamworks DRM

https://steam.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_DRM-free_games
or

Thanks for the emulator link, will check it out.

It is not true that every Steam game has integrated DRM.

There's no piracy described; there are many Steam titles that will launch without the Steam client. This is especially common with for-pay non-game apps (like 3d/paint apps or desktop enhancers), but it applies to many games, too.

I think they have to go out of their way to allow that, but still.

Apologies then, I had not considered paint apps and desktop enhancers in my post.

As he said, many Steam games are actually DRM-free. A list of some:

There's a workaround for adding Community to GOG Galaxy 2.0, see the below thread for details (I'm typing this from GOG Galaxy 2.0):

https://www.gog.com/forum/general_beta_gog_galaxy_2.0/forums_through_gog_20

It's not a perfect workaround as it still opens links like the above one in your web browser but it at least lets you browse the Community section and write/reply/contribute to the Community section within the GOG Galaxy 2.0 client...
