I've seen a lot of posts hoping the big reveal today is Lucasarts despite the mounting evidence for EA. That's fine of course, everyone has their opinion. What I think is strange though is how many people seem to wish it was LA rather than EA.

While I love me some Lucasarts classics EA is massive. EA is not just CnC, System Shock, Syndicate and Ultima, EA is also respect, EA is putting GOG on another level. Once EA comes it will be much easier to get Eidos, Lucasarts and others... selling EA on the idea is HUGE.

So if you would rather it be Lucasarts I'm curious as to why.
My vote goes to EA, because their catalogue is bigger, and EA oldies are harder to get (some LA is on steam, some is still available in retails).

But of course I want them both here.

ps. I think today we'll "only" get new games from Activision and Atari catalogue.

Snagging EA is the toughest of the two because it might be impossible for GOG to work out a deal with EA simply because of GOG's standards and EA's set up. Striking a deal with LA is really just a matter of time more than anything. There's nothing in the way of that at all.

Just to be clear about this I would rather have EA simply because then it would be a done deal. No more concerns about whether or not it's at all possible.

As long as they don't announce some horrible publisher I'm happy.

They've talked about a new big publisher a few times now.
I'd actually prefer EA over Lucasarts but I'd be fine either way. The more the merrier and it's not like my shelf is running dry of unplayed games.

edit: I do think Lucasarts is more likely though.

I agree, EA would be better for GoG in the long run. It will be easier to get other rights holders to agree to deals if they see EA is on board. Also, I don't think signing LucasArts is worth holding a press conference over. EA is though.

Also hoping that if EA comes it opens the doors for 2K, Fireaxis, THQ and Relic to come on board. I would love to see the earlier games in the Civ series, Alpha Centuri and the Homeworld series come to gog.

we'll see, they are vicious and have twisted minds.
Not by a long shot.

Lucasarts has some great games, but I can't think of many that I'd actually want to play again - especially since most of my favorites are comedy puzzle games. Puzzles and comedy aren't much fun the tenth time.

Star Wars kind of gives me a headache. I wouldn't mind having a copy of KotOR, and Dark Forces might be fun, but I can live without them.
To be honest, I'm actually surprised that the evidence is indicating that we may indeed get one of those two publishers here, it makes my head spin just having the possibility that they are coming to GOG becoming a reality. I always figured they would be the last ones to get onboard, LucasArts because they seemed more interested in re-releasing their old games as re-made special editions that GOG versions would eat into the sales of, and EA because they always seemed to want to push their own digital distribution system and to use their exclusive rights over all those old games in their back catalog to push it along with their love of DRM prohibiting them from joining GOG.

With the possibility that I might be wrong (a shock in itself! Well, okay, maybe not...), if either one is revealed as the new publisher then my head will asplode...
EA.
LA has good games and but their catalog is smaller, not so diverse + EA has lots pre-1995 oldies that are hard to get (like Sentinel Worlds or Fountain of Dreams)
The only reason I'm pretty convinced that it's LucasArts is because nearly all the dumb teasers immediately brought to mind a LucasArts game.
The GOG team is a master of Engrish though and EA's catalog is not minuscule.

Personally I would prefer EA simply because I own all LS games that interest me and that, most of them, are very easy to run on modern system.

On the other side EA has a lot of older games that, even thought works with dosbox, requires lots of tweaking and/or forum hunting to make work them correctly.

Other than Outlaws none of them really made me feel that way.
EA mainly because with EA comes the bullfrog back catalogue. I can't think of a single bullfrog game I wouldn't like to replay.
