I got here for a free version of Duke Nukem 3D,
after being lured before with free digital versions of Fallout 1+2 before, but back then I was still too sceptical about these digital distribution systems... now I love it and got 224 games here.

I don't buy retail games anymore because you never know what DRM witchcraft comes with it, mostly Steam though...

I signed up when I saw The Witcher 2 being sold for 3,99$, a real steal. THEN I noticed all the other goodness CD Project stores here, including a lot of titles I thought to be impossible to find... and now I own already 82 games! The fact that the 5-year-old celebrations started just after I joined helped the fast growth of my library.
Looking at my account's join date and purchase dates, no specific game. Just a chance to play games I didn't back in the 90s.
I joined when the first Fallout game was offered for free. The first games I've bought were Duke Nukem 3D, The Witcher and Dark Fall - The Journal two weeks later.
Witcher
Back in 1993 I had played the demo of ''Beneath a Steel Sky''. I found it really interesting.
After college I was looking for the full version to see the full story and suddenly ...... GOG was giving it for free!!!!
the old ones
I joined when the first Fallout game was offered for free. The first games that I've purchased were Alan Wake, Alan Wake's American Nightmare, Tropico 3: Gold Edition and Botanicula.
I think I registered to get Beneath a Steel Sky back in 2009, then forgot about GOG until a Christmas sale in which I created a new account (as I didn't remember having the first one).
Since then I started buying a lot of games, and Gog staff was so kind to merge the 2 accounts when I finally remembered about the first one (meanwhile I had gotten in it Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games that was given away for free back at the beginning of 2010).

Coelocanth: Seriously though, I joined because of the announcement on the old Witcher forums of this cool new idea they had of starting a digital distribution storefront that would sell old classic games DRM-free. That was enough to hook me.
Same here. I always check out new stores, and this one had an interesting premise. First game I bought was Fallout, but it wasn't the reason I came here.
I originally signed up to get the Thief series... and Blood...and Blood 2...and Shadow warrior, Duke nukem 3D and Redneck Rampage...and Heroes of annihilated empires, Deadly premonition, Carmageddon, the might and magic series, the heroes of might and magic series, clive barkers undying, shogo mad, Divinie Divinity, The Blitzkrieg series and of course System Shock! Oh and Deus Ex and some other games like the lands of lore series and so on...
Stonekeep.

old school classic, always loved it back in the day.
Age of Wonders III.

And now my shelf is bending with all the other games I already bought. And the wishlist is getting longer and longer.
A few years ago when Fallout 1 was free. Even tho I had the original box and cds. It was a pain in the a$$ patching everything and getting to work on Vista at the time. And then I tried out the free games which were fun here. I really enjoyed Beneath a Steel Sky. I also read through more what the site had to offer and I was hooked with DRM free and most games working on current OS systems.

I also enjoy the old classic games offered here at reasonable prices and awesome super sales throughout the year. Along with the great community board where there are not many trolls under the bridges hanging about ^_^
Personally, I signed up to get the free games (mainly Treasure Adventure Game) as well, and then forgot about the account, although I received news of the promos every week-thus, I somehow missed the summer sale free games and game deals :-/ Oh well, I was busy playing videogames at the time... ! Anyways, I started purchasing games from my account on the end of October 2013, when Rayman Forever was on sale-which was included in a retail Ubisoft Rayman bundle costing 20 euros, and of which I didn't want the rest of the games (I didn't fancy very much Rayman's switch to 3d...), along with other Ubisoft games- I also bought during that sale Beyond Good and Evil and Splinter Cell. After this, I started checking the week sales and soon I found myself with around 55 games in my account(most purchased but some gifted as well, as I started actively participating in the forums at around mid-December 2013) !

Anyways, I nowadays highly appreciate this nice and generous community and hang out here whenever I can. I also have now a huuuuge backlog and must glue myself in front of the computer during summertime if I want to play most of these :-) !
