if you're like me, you hate waiting for new titles, you want them now.
but we all know, if they just said 'lol HERES ALL OUR TITLES' in one post, we'd be completely 100% not interested in over half, we'd see two or three BIG titles and said 'aw fug the rest' and never come back.
the slow trickle, is the best way for every one to look at each game and admire it.
hell, I've bought 3 games so far (so low, I know) but I haven't even played either of them before. They weren't even on my top list of games to get when this opens (because System Shock 2 was only rumored).
So what is the reason for this post do you ask?
To gripe, about how I want titles faster.
As far as games ago I agree the lineup is a bit lackluster but remember this is a beta and things can only come so fast. Good thing comes to those who wait afterall. I am thinking once GoG leaves beta we are gonna see quite a bit more games.
LOL! I know what you mean. Sometimes I feel like there's someone who's reveling in the power they have over us, saying, "Maybe I'll release three titles for them this week instead of two... maybe not! GWAHAHA!"
But I'm pretty sure that's not the case. They're probably working overtime on four things:
1. Fixing whatever bugs are left on this beta website.
2. Handling whatever problems that we, customers, are having with the games they've released so far.
3. Making sure that the games they do have are completely DRM-free and Windows XP/Vista compatible before they release them.
4. Tracking down publishers to get more games in any way possible, including bargaining, begging, threatening, maiming, and assassination (okay, maybe not that last one :D )
I remember gog.com said in an interview that they wanted to have 70-100 games when they officially launch the website, so they've got their work cut out for them. In the meantime, the masses are getting hungry! :)
The masses are getting hungry but as you have all said (or wrote in the other threads probably countless times) this is only beta and we should be patient. 70-100 games for launch is going to be rather satisfying amount of gameplay hours methinks... And probably they will add even more after launch.
And yes, this still does not stop us from ranting. We want moar moar games!
I prefer the trickle release rather than one massive title dump. I'm more likely to be active in the community this way, rather just a single section for the title-of-the-moment.
So far, new stuff (titles, games, news etc...) has been fairly constant.
Remember the times before digital distribution became popular (thank you Valve) when you had to wait a couple of weeks if not longer for a game to come out in Europe? I would be drooling over the reviews from the US and occasionally gave up and just pirated it (I'm not proud, but I most of the times ended buying the game nonetheless).
So yeah, games have a long road from the initial announcement to the shelf but it's understandable; also, no matter how big the budgets and how many the people working on a project it will still take a while to produce, so the fact that teams are bigger now is not a reason for a game to come out sooner.
