Buy it or try to find the trilogy?
The positiive for buying it is that it would be for sure compatible with Vista from Steam or D2D. Not so sure of retail.

Discussion about UFO series... I hope you'll find what you need there :-) Personally, I'd reccomend you to play all 3 of them.
I'm wary because people have commented with reports of bugs on the UFO series. And the first game (Aftershock?), I think still has SecuROM. And I am still unsure of compatability with Vista 64. Otherwise, I would buy it immediately from Amazon (since Steam and D2D doesn't have the trilogy, only Afterlight).

just to clarify, in the discussion fenixp linked, i found that aftershock (second in the series) has starforce; although, if purchased through gamer's gate, it does not. the other two games, aftermath (first game) and afterlight (third game), do have secuROM.

Unless Gamer's Gate installed the Starforce themselves, Afterlight shouldn't have Starforce.

right... like i said, afterlight doesn't have starforce at all (aftershock does, for the retail box copy only), it has secuROM. from what i can tell, secuROM, unlike starforce, comes with digital downloads as well.
Ah. Sorry. Got SecuROM and Starforce mixed up there.

no worries. i'm sure the UFO game titles didn't help much either, haha
Ugh. Well, I really really want to avoid the Starforce. So I guess... off to test ANOTHER downloading service!
(I'm testing D2D via Vampires right now to see how much better it is than Steam.)
