So, I haven't been a member here for very long, but I have been wondering what it is that makes the GOG community so much more...well...mature.

Almost all gaming communities I have been a part of just seem to be childish, immature and more hateful.
I mean look at the Steam Discussions and then look here again. HUGE difference.
People here are kinder, there are deeper more meaningful discussions, staff are more helpful and take part in the conversations etc..

I wonder if it's what GOG stands for perhaps.. DRM free, and lot's of older games that perhaps attracts a more mature crowd?

I don't know, but I am impressed so far and glad to be part of the community :)

Feel free to share your thoughts.
People here like playing games instead of bitching about them and consoles.

Edit: To provide a bit more than a one line joke post.

A lot of other forums seem to have an environment geared towards fighting over stuff. Be it consoles, or whatever. Yeah there are fights and arguments here, but overall they seem far less than other places. I think the game lineup in GOG's catalog is geared more towards a bit older crowd that rather just play their games and be happy.

Fictionvision: older crowd
That's pretty much it.
Though to be fair, we do have our tinye (sic) share of people who do their best to derail every topic at every opportunity. Fortunately there aren't many of them. The GOG forums are one of the best forums (any topic) I've ever used.
Most GOG members are old farts like me. :D

Thank you. :D

To be fair I there are some people here who actually like me. :D They are all severely mentally disturbed but I love them all the same.

I think steam is not the worse, please dont hate me for saying this but rpgcodex for example, the majority of the members there are completely assholes, they think they are some kind of gods and just insult and disrespect anyone, one of the worst forums on the net.

On the other hand you got gog forums, where most of the users are very polite and will treat everyone the same way, I think is one of the best forums on the net :) why? Can't really say, because some users are here since long time ago but others are pretty new but still they are cool and very polite, if you got nice people it will attract nice people too I think :P

Thats inevitable I suppose. I don't know who, but someone just keeps feeding these damn trolls.

And I agree about the GOG forums being among the best.

Even when it happens, it's seldom out of malice or because someone feels a need to bring up another topic. I quite doubt tinyE has ever intentionally derailed a thread.
NOW I'm a troll!?

I figured Ogre... You DO have a Donkey.

... I guess I'm (one of) the other thread derailers... But it's kind of my job to make sure it's not ALL about seriousness... Or at least that's MY take on it.

You should be happy for them and wish them a continued happy ignorance, for they have obviously never seen a real troll.
And the thread has been derailed!

Do we know that people here are older than at other game sites or is it just a theory that since GOG started by publishing old games that means that the customers are olders? I'm 50 by the way.

old games are selective. either youre old fart (with some level of maturity) or atleast not cod-adhd level teen.

these games are not very interesting for the more childish people, who rather troll steam / console forums.

just fine by me.
