Randalator: The game you're referring to doesn't exist. And if it did, it would be a steaming pile of crap. Thank god it doesn't...
CoachWade: I am not interested in arguing with you, Randal, whatever your motivation may be for trying to irritate me. I like the Thief franchise. I may or may not like the fourth game, but I didn't ask for your opinion here. I started this thread PURELY to thank the GOG development team for putting my favorite game franchise on sale, not to start a discussion about the Matrix or for any other reason.

Randal wasn't arguing with you, he was using a figure of speech to indicate how much he loved the first Thiefs and how disappointed he was in the newest version. And so, he has hyperbolically and dramatically chosen to ignore that it exists and only focus on the original Thief games here on GOG.
I'm about 15 hours into the new one and haven't gotten a chance to play it for a few weeks. But so far, I've really liked it. It's a bit linear in places (and a lot linear in others) and guided, but it still has a lot of fun moments.
As for The Matrix, I worked at a cinema when The Matrix came out and I loved it. For those too young to remember, their ad campaign told you nothing about the movie. They would just keep asking the question, "What is the Matrix?" And when I saw the movie, it blew me away. I saw it somewhere around 14 times in the the theater (when it's free, it's spectacular! I even got free popcorn and Pepsi).
The sequels weren't as good, but I still enjoyed them. I felt like they should have taken the story in different directions, though. Nonetheless, I still liked them and I'm still not certain that Neo ever got out of the Matrix at all.
P.S. I almost forgot, the first Thief was Thief: The Dark Project. I think that's how it's differentiated from the fourth, which is just called "Thief."
