Hail community!

Being a new GoG user, i'm currently having some issues. I've recently acquired a childhood gem of mine, and as the picture depicts, there is a constant black bar on the bottom of the screen. That's not really the problem though. The real problem is that when i go to the config file (dosbox-0.74.conf) to edit it (using notepad++) It doesn't change a thing. I've tried changing various elements, and nothing i do changes anything in the game. I don't know if the config file should be somewhere else (it's in appdata/local), or if i'm just being a derp.

You tried aspect=true?

Yeah. Both resolutions are the equivalent of my monitor, fullscreen and double are false, output is surface, etc. etc. But like i said, changing something changes nothing. So i really don't know what to do.

output=surface will prevent many other switches from working. For example, there are settings for scaling, but the "surface" output method can't scale, so they won't have any effect. Not sure if that's the problem in your case because I can't tell what you changed exactly, but it could be.

Try setting the output method to "ddraw", or at least "overlay".

What exactly are you trying to do? From looking at the screen, perhaps the game was using 320x200 resolution, and your monitor's aspect ratio is probably not 16:10?

Turns out that playing the game from the shortcut gives you a default resolution and such. After going into DosBox and changing directories, and starting the game straight up from there, the change is extremely apparent...

If you're playing the original Descent, you might want to look into the DXX-Rebirth Mod! It makes the game run a lot better on modern systems!
