Why is the default letter assigned to hard drives C:\? Why not start with A:\?

I thought it meant Computer Drive, like D Drive was Disk Drive.

Because Crap Drive sounds better than Ass Drive. -_-

They were both for floppys? I still think it would have made more sense to have the hard drive as A:\ since the floppys are only temporary.

Not in the past. In the past we used drive A:\ for program and drive B:\ for data. Then along came harddrive, which was then assigned as drive C:\ ever since. Well, who knows maybe in the future harddrive also becomes temporary? :-)

Yes. On computers that had them, A:\ would be 3.5 inch, and B:\ would be 5.25 inch. I think hard disks came later in computer history, hence C:\. I'm just glad I never dealt with data cassettes.

CD/DVD drives have become temporary as well since we can mount them virtually now.

It's only a matter of time before our minds become the M:\ drive.
