Hi there. I joined the wonderful site that is GOG.com a while ago and have been happily buying games here ever since. However, when I tried to buy Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games (because of the great promo) via PayPal, my payment couldn't be processed. I have used PayPal to buy every other game so far but this one, I simply couldn't.

I tried a couple of times and it just wouldn't work. I then put in my card details and tried to pay that way and it worked fine. Therefore, is this a problem with GOG of is it a problem with PayPal? Will it rectify itself?

There have been a couple others having issues with Paypal lately. I don't use it, so I can't tell you the first thing to do about it on the PayPal side. On the GOG side however, sometimes the site bugs a little and refuses certain payment options. During Christmas we had a month long 50% discount on most of the games, and my debit card took a week before I could get it to process. I tried my father's two credit cards as well. Give it a while and it should be working again.

Did you tried to pay via direct debit?
That option isn't offered to me for some reason, although it worked two days ago when i bought Fallout.
I had some troubles with the payment before, and since i don't own a credit card, sending funds to paypal seems to be the best solution. I don't know where the problem lies, i just hope it will work later this day, so i don't miss the promo.

Well when I pay via PayPal it gets charged to my card anyway because I hardly ever have actual funds in my PayPal account.

Funny really, because paying with my card directly on GOG and paying with my card using PayPal (like I usually do for the sake of convenience) is basiccaly the same thing but the PayPal method didn't work this time.

Usually it's better to go direct. It's like the game you play as a kid, where kid 1 comes up with a sentence and whispers to kid 2, so on to the end where kid 'n' shouts the sentence. It's difficult to use a solution that requires two steps, as opposed to a solution that takes one step. Even the one step can be difficult (I have to ask people to repeat quite a bit. Either I'm losing my hearing or everyone needs to talk a little damn louder), but now you've got it where two different things have to be checked at the same time through two sites.

Both PayPal and card-issuing banks have gotten very nervous about "card not present" transactions. PayPal won't link prepaid, gift, or one-time cards anymore, either.

Without digging in, it's a little hard to say whether GOG, PayPal, or your card issuer refused the transaction. Any one of them could have. It's not likely GOG would have. But PayPal or your bank might have.

If you want to dig in, start by calling your bank. If PayPal tried to present the transaction to them and they declined, they will have a record of it and should be willing to tell you why they declined it.

If PayPal declined it, good luck. Getting a straight answer on anything from PayPal is like trying to pull wisdom teeth from a cockatrice.
