keeveek: He's a real loser if he really thought colaborating with FBI will get him his sentence minimized.

wpegg: It was quite sinister actually, they got to him through threatening with prison, and I think implicitly, with denying access to his kids. More info here.

I find the line “It was because of his kids,” an FBI source told Fox News. “He’d do anything for his kids. He didn’t want to go away to prison and leave them. That’s how we got him.” to leave me with a feeling that I don't quite know who the good guys are here.
Man, that sounds like a typical episode of 24

chaosbeast: I'm sorry but what did those wallstreet criminals get after they ruined thousands of people's retirement funds, the housing market collapse, and forcing government bailouts?
A bonus or three.
And not a single tear was shed by anyone.
Future FBI internet infiltration defence specialists, no doubt.

dmetras: Edit: And some of those numbers could have very well been debit card numbers, as well. No recovering lost cash from that.
This is technically untrue in the US. Though there is a time limit on reporting the incident (and it's way too short, imo) you very much can recover your cash. The law may still allow the banks to keep up a certain amount (was 50 USD, but may have been reduced or eliminated recently), but a good bank won't and most will refund 100% of funds while investigating.

You'd be wrong about that. This is further proof how utterly fucked we are.
