I was wondering for the games that have Mac/Linux editions, if GOG has plans of making them available to download.

Simply based on past experience... don't hold your breath.

I don't know about GOG's plans but at least judging from the past they are not really keen on supporting anything else than Windows and english language. However many games can run on Linux/Mac, especially the DosBox games.

Well, past experience taught us a lot of things, like that GOG wouldn't release newer games, or that they wouldn't be able to get EA out of their DRM-obsessed mindset.
I was wondering because games like trine have PC, Mac, and Linux available if bought directly and many other indie titles are similar in supporting Mac's and Linux.
While I'm not surprised that this question has come up with the new site update, it's still a very odd question to ask seeing how Windows-centric GOG is. I really don't think anything's going to change there.

If you're talking about newer games like Trine, etc., I'd say it's a pretty good bet. If you're talking about classic titles like Shogo: MAD, it's highly unlikely. Usually ports of older games were handled by third-party developers and third-party publishers working under completely different terms with the IP owners of any given game.

If GOG were to try to handle the distribution rights to those ports, they'd have to negotiate a whole other set of contracts, potentially with the port's developer, the port's publisher, and the IP holder again for the rights to redistribute them, which would be a legal nightmare given that some porting companies like Loki Games and MacPlay have gone under.

And *then* GOG would have to deal with updating, patching and supporting the port. So yeah, I really don't see that happening. There are plenty of games though that have open-source ports which run in Linux/Mac, and there are others which run fine in WINE or CrossOver; you can see my GOGmix for some examples: http://www.gog.com/en/mix/mac_friendly_gog_games_4
This is the whole reason I don't see a point in buying indie titles from here.

Buy them from the dev and you'll usually get the different versions AND they'll be drm-free in most cases.

Buy them from here and you get the windows version, where exactly is the attraction in that?

Everyone, jump on the bandwagon!

/edit: GOG merged some requests so the old links became obsolete, these are the new ones.

Because many of the people who come here, come here to buy older games which are windows centric & have windows OS's

But 'if' support of the devs is the actual motive, and a lot of people say that it is, then why not just by directly from them.. you don't get less, in fact you get more, PLUS you cut out the middleman (gog/steam).

The only reason games being on services like this are partially a fair thing, is because of the noteriety the dev is able to get from sites like these.. but again, once you know of the dev/game and have decided to 'support' them, why not just get it directly from them?

Because there's still quite a few dev's who have their games on steam (other non drm free sites)/no drm free option to download from their site. For me i a fraction more to support gog than the dev's..(i get from both if i can afford to)

Not sure i agree. I have never played any of the games that I purchased from gog on a windows OS - only ever on a mac. Because of the prevalence of games that use scummvm and dosbox, i think gog has a large fan base of gamers that don't use windows. it would be a shame if they didn't make the most of it.
There's a few members doing this, it's a lot of effort and not worth it to me, but if you really want to do it for some reason you should use Google's site: option to search the forums for these topics (as GOG's forum search may still be broken, dunno).

Make sure to write to support and vote for Mac/Linux builds in the next survey.
