So just about 1 week ago with all this GTA 5 talk in the air, the awesome new trailer and all I got an itch to play GTAIV so i grabbed my retail copy to install (base game) and to my horror got an Cyclic Redundancy Error. Looking at the disc my heart sunk as I discovered that my disc 1 has a fatal all the way through the data scratch. :(

I got a hold of Rockstar and they said they'd replace it, but they have to replace the full game and have to give me a brand new serial and everything and it can take 4-6 weeks and there's of course a small fee of $7.50. Well looking online last week the price of the games and such was still like 20+ bucks and all so it was still a decent deal. However Nov/Dec are bad months for me financially since I don't get paid holiday pay but am forced to not work those days.

Was waiting until I had the spare cash and so while I'm broke and everything what does lady luck want to do in the meantime? Give me the troll face by offering up http://store.steampowered.com/app/901583/ in a flash sale. So I get to sit here and watch the flash sale pass me by. So in a month or two so I can replace my base game for the exact same price and wait another month to play it. Lady Luck you are just hilarious. -_-

They don't have a client and their downloader is one crappy piece of software. Also, they take every game, so browsing isn't really an option.

But apart from that. They are ok.
I first thought that you had a hard-drive error. Just be happy that isn't the case. And make some backups!
Try a used CD and DVD store, or a locally-owned used game store. Both in our town will resurface CDs, and they do a great job. We've picked up over used 100 disks and not a one doesn't work.
