My new MSI GT70 Dominator 895 laptop just came in and I installed DOSBox and installed Jazz Jackrabbit. I came across a problem. Whenever a level loads up it pauses for a couple of seconds or so then the game begins. It also does this whenever I exit the game into the main menu. Could it be something w/ the i7-4810 or Windows 8.1 or both? I really need to get rid of the lag pauses. I would appreciate if someone helps me out. No goofy answers plz!

EDIT: My other MSI Windows 7 powered laptop doesn't have this.

Use DOSBox SVN Daum.

The technical explanation is that Jazz Jackrabbit switches resolution and refresh rate when going between menus and gameplay. Windows 8 introduced some changes to fullscreen behaviour that cause this result.
I really wish GOG could get the Jazz Jackrabbit series. Please for [url=http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/jazz_jackrabbit_2_1]both games!

*IGSRJ voice* WHOA!!

That DOSBox SVN Daum build made Jazz Jackrabbit run soo much better now! Thanks so much for posting that link Arkose. I wonder if all GOG DOSBox powered games could be updated as the same DOSBox build as Taewoong's. Making them all Windows 8.1 friendly.

GOG uses Taewoong's builds for games with 3dfx rendering. I think the first Tomb Raider is handled this way (I don't recall the specific cases off-hand).

I wouldn't expect GOG to use it for every game. Many DOS games don't change resolutions as often as Jazz Jackrabbit (and also tend to use standard resolutions) so this particular behaviour probably isn't noticeable for most games.
