With assistance from the generous folk on this forum already, i have managed to put together quite a good system. But with the final price of $1639.00, ($1500.83 USD) i was wondering if anyone thinks i can do better with that money? (I am in Australia).

I chose the components with consideration of price and popularity of sales on PC Part Picker

Below system with CPL Online;

Motherboard = ASRock Z87 Extreme4 ATX LGA1150 Z87 Extreme4 $189.00
CPU = Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core LGA1150 $395.00
Graphics = Gigabyte GeForce GTX770 OC Edition 4GB GV-N770OC-4GD $495.00
RAM = Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4G) 1600Mhz DDR3 CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 $115.00
HDD = Samsung 840 EVO Series 120GB SSD MZ-7TE120BW $108.00
Power = Aerocool Templarius 750W Imperator PSU 80+ Silver Haswell Ready $115.00
Case = Aerocool Strike X One ATX Case - Strike One $65.00
OS = Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM - GFC-02050 $115.00
Keyboard and mouse mouse = Logitech MK330 Wireless $42.00

TOTAL = AUD $1639.00
USD $1500.83

Note: I already have SATA HDD and DVD.

I looked at the specs, and I would say that is a pretty damn good system, and the price doesn't seem unreasonable.
All but the power supply. Aerocool is Andyson, and Andyson belongs high on the "don't even touch this with a fireproof pole" list.

You don't need 750 watts, but if you do get a 750 watt power supply, at least get one where the label isn't a work of speculative fiction.

Something like an Antec Earthwatts 650 will do well enough and should cost even less. Earthwatts 650 "Green" and "Platinum" are both Haswell compatible.

If you want a top-quality power supply, find an Antec HCG or HCP, Seasonic G series, XFX Pro, or a Corsair TX, TX-M, or HX "Silver" or "Gold". There are many others. But stay away from Aerocool. You'd be putting all those other expensive parts at risk.

Here's a long list of Haswell-compatible power supplies. Most of them are excellent; all of them are acceptable.

Nice specs. Agree about PSU. Better off getting a Corsair modular or Antec for that price

mystikmind2000: Graphics = Gigabyte GeForce GTX770 OC Edition 4GB GV-N770OC-4GD $495.00
It might be a good idea to check if that's the rev 2.0 version (has improved VRM and power design) - my rev 1.0 version of this card failed after only 5 months of use (could have just been a dud unit).

I was going to recommend this kit to you but then I noticed the price has gone up over 50% since I bought one last year :S
for a while there i thought i wasn't getting any replies, thanks!

The power supply was the only one under $120 on the site which specified Haswell compatible. i figured getting an overpowered one will give it an easy ride to compensate for being poorer quality, although it won't help the haswell functionality.

The graphics card - revision 1 or 2, nothing mentioned on the site?

The RAM - the price going up 50% its perfectly natural, because computer components get more expensive and less powerful over time and.... welcome to Australia, the land where if its dumb enough, and involves prices going up, yeehaw!

http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/psu_recommendations#rmp_sg_whirlpoolpcs_power_supply_recommendations

Have a look at that for suggestions for PSU

As for the video card, definitely email them to check.

Ram prices used to be a lot cheaper.....
Nothing to add to the conversation, but agree with everything said...make sure you get a brand name power supply. Don't even mess with one of those no name, bad rep brands. If they blow, they can take out other components. It is not worth the risk.
Well that's weird....

This one clearly does not say Haswell compatible on the site i am buying the system from:

http://www.cplonline.com.au/antec-ea-650-platinum-power-supply.html

But according to other websites, it is?

This would be my choice of power supply, but not mentioning the word 'Haswell' is very concerning to me, because to not mention it just doesn't make any sense?

redacted previous comment. It appears antec's website sucks. According to newegg that power supply is Fully Haswell compatible. Not counting the AUD to USD conversion that's a $30 markup.

Great build but I am not certain if yours would be future proof. Intel has showcased its intent to release 8 core haswells I think and with Maxwell on the horizon, I'd hold off an immediate upgrade. Just my two cents.

Do you overclock? if not, you might want to swap the CPU for Xeon E3-1230V3.

Are you planning to go SLI at somepoint? if not, you could drop PSU to say 600W.

If youre not going to go for SLI at any point...do you seriously want to have ATX case? you could put all the stuff to half smaller price anyways and it wont even necessarily be more expensive. Plenty of ITX cases to choose from.

Pehaps Antec thinks Haswell compatible is not worth mentioning anymore? Similar like car manufacturers don't bother mentioning fuel injected anymore?

I'd stay away from the ITX unless you want to build a small form factor PC, but a mATX board would not be a bad decision. ITX you are stuck with one PCIe slots, two memory slots, and they are priced comparably to ATX boards. I've built a couple ITX for entertainment center PCs, but as a gaming rig I would stick with mATX or ATX.

Don't know what SLI is, my knowledge of computers is kindof 'old'. The computer build i am making, i don't really know what it is.... the whole thing is based on a combination of following the crowd and price.

I never over clock... I think people who over clock are mad - putting themselves in that position of wondering if every problem that comes along 'might' be related in some way to the over clocking... who needs that??

What's future proofing? That concept has not existed since the P2 was released 20 odd years ago! That is how long it has been since an upgrade of mine actually involved the same CPU or motherboard, not for lack of desire on my part but because of manufacturer sabotage (how many f****n different sockets do we need anyway??)
