hey dudes/dudettes
haven't been able to find a thread about this, so thought I'd throw this up.
what does GOG call a classic? is it just a game that was released before a certain year?. is it a game thats had universally positive reviews and/or well-known?
What so you personally set as your own criteria for a classic old game?
I would still say PC games from its beginnings to at least 2004-5 are classics (or 6-7 at best and 2000 at worst)

The defenition of a classic game?
A game is an instant classic if I like it, no matter how new or old.
Famous, often referred to (for descriptions, comparisons, or just as a "same experiences" recognition), but not currently commonly played, in the selling charts, or available on retail, etc.
Any game over which people can get nostalgic; the more generations have passed, the classier.
To me, it´s a game of another age which is known and loved by a large portion of gamers, that gives and atemporal feeling of joy, thus being played even nowadays accomplishing the same feat.
something that is at least 10 years old and had critical/cultural importance in gaming.
I get in debates all the time about what it means to be "classic" and still am not quite sure. A classic movie is Casablanca, Tokyo Drifter as well, a classic game is Super Mario Bros., a classic Fire Emblem could be either Seisen no Keifu or Path of Radiance. A classic Gamecube game is Baten Kaitos, Call of Duty is the classic CoD game (arguably 4 as well), and Uncharted is a classic PS3 game. Possibly any game of significance or one which is quintessential to the overall industry?
10 or more years old and a five star experience within its genre.
classic would be a game minimum 10 years old that to this day is playable and enjoyable. Adding something or popularizing new thing is a plus.
High rated or significant to the gaming industry games made pre 2k.
A game hipsters sneer at for being old.
For me personally it any game that was release prior to 2000.

But I suppose it vary depending on the gamer age.
A classic game (IMHO) is one that was released quite a while ago and is recognized as well-made - at least for its time - and well-loved by many who played it (this remembered fondly.) Its especially classic if its story-telling, technical breakthroughs etc were highly influential to later games ...or movies ...or both
