Kaeoschassis: My votes would go to DoomRL
DoomRL is pretty awesome. There's various modes and so many directions you can go while leveling. Dual pistol wielding, hand-to-hand only, shotguns... It feels very much like D&D except split into 1 action rounds (rather than several for a turn) and since you are the only player and the DM is super fast, it's always your turn.

The newer versions also add tiles and brings music and sound effects from the original game letting you immerse yourself into it better :)
I liked Vulture, which is a fork of Falcon's Eye. There used to be a version available of some of the rogue variants like Slash'EM, and all were free and open source. Now it's Vulture for Nethack and is currently only available on Desura, though the game's webpage mentions it will be available on Steam. Fortunately for me, I still have my copy of the Nethack and Slash'EM versions, though I haven't played them for years.
I'm not a big Rogue-like guy, I tend to prefer somewhat modernised ones, like Diablo 1, or others with better controls and stuff. I do like DoomRL, and I love Infra Arcana, though IA is definitely more classic than DoomRL. I'd love to play more, but I'm not really fond of fumbling through lots of controls, and I could do with tiles (something that both DoomRL and IA have, though IA's is fairly rudimentary).
Tales of Maj'eyal and it's expansion.

It's also FREE from their website!!! Not sure if the expansion is free from their website though.

This thread has been open for a day already and nobody mentioned Sword of the Stars: The Pit yet? Shame on you!

Tales of Maj'eyal also looks pretty good but I haven't played it yet. The expansion isn't free, though. The base game also lacks some features in the free version. Whether you like or need those features is something everyone must decide for himself. Having a look at the free version is definitely recommended though.

I agree that Sword Of The Stars should of been mentioned. Great rogue like.

And one thing I forgot to mention about Tales of Maj'eyal is that the game lets you see how other players DIE. HAHAHA The game also has a chat room with all the people playing the game so you can chat with others if you feel lonely in the game.
