DieRuhe: It's almost a cliche, but Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" is a nice piece of work.

I can appreciate it more than you might think. Preferred the second and third links where it sounds more like blending in traditional Asian influences. That girl in the second group seems to be in a very different talent class than her supporting group members.

Thanks to everyone pitching in. Feel free to keep them coming, though I will probably have to come back and check it all out a bit later on.

I would recommend trying out some of the stuff at Overclocked Remix and VGMix Archive. Their focus is on remixed videogame music, which includes orchestral pieces. Here is a number of pieces from both places.

I might be a traditionalist, but I have a week spot for Bach's cello suites and fugues

Also Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, his O Fortuna is one of the most powerful pieces written.

Since I have a background as a choir singer, most of the classical pieces I know and love are choral pieces.

There are many fantastic compositions, but my favourite of them all has to be Cantique de Jean Racine by Gabriel Fauré.

Oh, I'll also recommend anything at all by Claude Debussy. It may not be to your taste, but he has got a very distinctive style, with some interesting rarely used harmony shifts.
Sorry, I know this is an old thread, but I see no one has mentioned the YouTube channel of The Piano Guys, who have some amazing work for cello(s) and piano. Here's a rendition of the Advent classic O come, o come Emmanuel, for example - I think you'll even enjoy it even if you're not religious.
