I'm quite partial to the Half-Life 2 shotgun reload sound, but Doom clearly has the best firing sound.

Except in every Alien-based game they've managed to fuck it up massively and make it sound like a peashooter.

I don't know. I liked the sounds in AvP 2. A lot. Made using the Smartgun immensely satisfying. Agreed on the 2010 AVP, though.

Doom's shotgun is a great weapon but its sound effects are mediocre. Quake1's nailguns sound much more potent for instance. There are surely better examples.
