For me it's a simple enough to round it down to "space saving" and for the most part going digital, especially in movies is very much that.
However PC games forced it quite early, all because of Steam.. as soon as every label required that shit (i cursed and avoided it for years) buying a disc with half a game on it to then download the other half after signing upto Steam was an absolute waste of fookin time.
Along with the lack of space, i just stopped bothering with physical PC games outside of collectors edition type stuff.
If i was still a console gamer i'd go with physical media, at the very least those you can trade away. PC games stopped being trade-able before Steam came along.
