Sure you can win at Neverwinter Nights - it's easy and here's how:

Open a DOS command window and type

format c:/s and hit Enter - trust me it will work - not trolling.... no sir.

Or find another walkthrough you prefer. Cuts down on the frustration, knowing what you need to prep for between areas.

I see trolls really enjoy posting on a forum where they can't be reported....

And I'm a programmer, I know full well what that will do to my computer. So no, I'm not stupid, I know what I'm doing, I know how the program itself works (hell, I've been thinking about making my own mods for it). Have fun convincing me that I'm incompetent. Oh, and I have an IQ of 125.

Wow this game has such shitty design.

Learning to make games myself, I can see just what a complete and utter mess this game is.

I finally beat the final boss, after choosing to use the respawn function, after avoiding it for so long. Died so many times, I lost all my xp, and I was almost to level 9. Also lost all my gold, and I had over 20,000 when I started.

What kind of cheap design is that? Punish you for not being able to do everything. You need a support, and you need a rogue. You can't be both, and your 'henchmen' won't do either. My tank just stands around and stares at me while I'm getting beaten, or he's getting beaten. I had to actually tell him to 'attack nearest' just to get him to actually fight the thing that was killing him.

So yeah, all that effort to avoid losing xp to the fucking respawn function failed. Now, I'm underleveled, and I don't see any hope of completing this game.

And this 'forum' really needs a mute function. Badly.

I know exactly how you feel. Frustrated, right?

If it makes you feel any better and I don't see any reason why it wouldn't, you sound like me playing through Descent Freespace, Descent 3 or the very last missions of Tie Fighter (in the hardest difficulty, of course). Damn I was angry at those games at many points, but hang in there, you may well become victorious. I know I did!

It is like the bad marriage you had before, or the STD you got from some hooker in an alley. Sure it sucks, but without them you wouldn't be the man you are today.

I haven't played Neverwinter Nights yet, besides the very beginning to see how it runs. I was thinking of first playing Icewind Dale 2, as I liked (and finished) the first IWD a lot. After that NWN.

Do you realize that games of the 90s and 00s got, in most cases, balanced around the normal difficulty level? All harder difficulty levels were hardly balanced and barely tested, and all the developers did was to crank up damage levels and reduce player hitpoints and so forth.

Ergo in some cases it is perfectly valid to just go for normal and be happy with it.
Yes, I can't find the motivation to finish my many games either.

I had gone back to the steam version of Quake II (with the music patch), but the game I had saved was corrupted for who knows what...

So I went back to the GoG version without applying the patch to get the music for fear that it would corrupt my backup.

I also have many games to finish on steam /GoG and I can no longer find the motivation most of the time to play again: badly balanced, lots of useless quests that waste a crazy time, game that is very repetitive & boring, the reasons are many.
Only games that I finished regularly was in the 00's, usually turn based strategy like sid meiers alpha centauri or star trek birth of the federation. I remember buying baldurs gate in 2001 on ebay, playing it until I got a stable character who could handle most fights, then didn't resume and finish until 2012. Then I realized I hated the ranger and wanted a fighter to be dual classed into a mage when I go to BG2. Going through the 2nd time around and lost interest.

Some games are fun but I can't finish it, got a sid meiers colonizatino game 94' save with backups, when you got the max, ?32 cities each turn takes forever. Happens a lot with other games with 'very large' maps.

Same with fallout 3, NV and 4, I get to the point where my character can survive any fight with the help of stimpacks and I'm bored. Started skyrim in Dec 17' and couldn't resist abusing restoration potions, and now I'm playing warband again, never come close to the 'end' in that game.
I finish pretty much all the games I actually like. I used to buy a lot of games I shouldn't have and didn't really like, which led to a lot of half-finished games. Games I actually like though? Games like Deus Ex, Dishonored, Skyrim, Witcher, GTA, Fallout, etc.? I finish those. So in my opinion maybe if you literally never finish games you're either buying too many mediocre ones or playing the wrong genres.

Now, sometimes I do get bored and take a break from a game, play something else, then come back and finish. That's probably the case with most long games actually.
