+1 to Wishbone, I'm sorry it has come to this, but I agree. GOG has been ignoring this for too long.

Wishbone: In that case, you're choosing to be part of the problem rather than the solution.
While allowing the problem to grow to force GOG's hand has it's merits -- I agree with you in principle -- you're asking (some) people to watch their favourite/preferred forums be overrun. Would you allow your driveway to be filled with garbage from passers-by to get the attention of the local council? No, you'd clean up and badger them.

No, after the fourth full truck emptied its trash all over my driveway, I'd definitely stop removing it myself and go after the source of the problem instead.

And if you couldn't find the source? No, I don't believe you would.

No, I guess you're right. I'd just quit my job and become homeless, spending all my waking hours shovelling garbage off the driveway of the house where I used to live.

Why would you do that if you left home? That's insane.

toxicTom: Too late, it has become compulsory. Must... flag... spam..... *argh*

Trust me, I love GOG to bits, but sometimes they really do need tough love rather than cuddling. And I think we've established by now that cuddling does not work in this instance.
You certainly are right. On the other hand, it's kind of satisfying to see those threads disappear.

I have to say, I am a little disappointed that none of the blues showed their face here at least for dropping a few words of thanks and encouragement and "we are working on it". Especially after we purged that 16+ pages of spam from TW2. A few people (including me) have got PMs by the staff, but the majority must have the impression that GOG not only ignores the problem but also the people devoting their time trying to help.

No, that's sarcasm ;-)

My point is that the problem here is so big that in order to keep it down, several people have to be involved more or less full time. Only to have it start all over again as soon as they've cleared everything up. It's a labor of Sisyphus, and pointless to continue. What's needed is a permanent solution, and that has to come from GOG.

I don't disagree at all, but at the same time those forums are being rendered unusable by people who want to use them. If a few people are willing to spend a few minutes flagging them in the meantime, I say good on them. I'd rather do that, and put GOG to shame in the process, than allow some scumbag/s the satisfaction of any denial of access to those who want it.

The thing is, it isn't putting GOG to shame. Those who just see the clean forums are unaware there's a problem in the first place, and those who see the spam and then see it clearing up are going to assume that GOG cleaned it up. Only those people who follow this thread know that it's actually a few dedicated community members policing the forums who are responsible.
~redeemed~

A little encouragement for someone.

Nobody mentioned public shame. GOG knows there is a problem; GOG knows it's users who are keeping on top of it. Ergo, it is GOG's shame.
