There was legitimate discussion in that thread, and more could be had if all the idiots could keep out of clicking on it and then go crying to the mod. I like how the thread was closed but the offenders weren't apprehended. What about warning and individual bans? Either way, your opinion matters little here, with you being the king of offtopic whining in threads.

I don't see why any true GGer would be against it, closing the thread is one step to keep politics away from video games.

1. How about thanking the people who can't have a normal conversation rather than a toxic dump of a thread instead. It's they who forced GOG to finaly enforce some rules here.

2. I'm sick and tired of this logic of acquiescence to trolls. As it turns out, we can have moderation here, and don't have to have "containment threads" in hopes the toxicity will be so nice as to stay within their boundires (spoiler- it never does)- we can simply be rid of it all, and good riddance.

Regardless of whether these changes are good or bad, there have been a lot of people here upset about what has been happening in here for a long time now, several of whom are no longer in the forum because it got TOO hostile, and most of if not all of these people have voiced their concerns/frustration over this. ALAS I'm the only one getting shit, the only one getting PMs telling me to go fuck myself.

I was just kidding personally. I didn't mean to offend you. Yeah the GG thread was just too hostile coming from both sides which is why I was happy just to stay away from it for the most part. While closing the thread treats a symptom the hostility will find an outlet in other threads now.

Silencing and marginalizing those you don't agree with doesn't generally give the result people want. Trump's election should be proof of that.

Depends. Some people only came here for that hate fest of a thread. Those are effectively removed without the need to ban them. I doubt you'll e.g. see that little hate machine Leonardo around any more. Others are doing a pathetic stormoff at the mere announcement that they're being asked to heed the rules that have been there for a near decade. Those are all developments that go deeper than symptomatic treatment. I do agree that it can only be the beginning.

The 125 page predecessor thread is still open. Same topics, same "legitimate discussion", same hate. But the title of that thread alone flies gamergate's flags and founding event a little too clearly, I guess. Let's see whether they dare revive it.
