Yeah - there are a lot of people about who don't understand that it rarely makes any difference if you're running 8GB or 16GB. Even in Cyberpunk, apparently the difference was a couple of FPS at medium (I mean literally a couple of FPS). Timings and speed are more important - as is making sure you're not running a tonne of trash in the background.

I normally find that, unless it's a productivity user, most of the people that say things like "You absolutely have to have 16GB RAM - 8GB makes things too slow" either have a poorly optimised setup, are the type of people that think you have to upgrade a graphics card every generation or have more money than they know what to do with.

After having been either a mod or a user on different forums for 20+ years (16 on Steam), I'd say it really isn't a clean-cut of whether one is better and worse than the other.

Yes, Steam does have a lot of people that think Steam is the only god in the universe and DRM-free ignorance, but other than that it's not that bad. Let's not fool ourselves into thinking GOG is so much better... it's just smaller and have more "elderly" people (like me I guess ;) ). All forums have their vitriolic (if you want to call it that) users and users who actually contribute/participate. If GOG were bigger then I'd imagine it would have been somewhat worse.

If you're not used to a city and comes from a farm and a little town then you might be a little overwhelmed by the noise. Same goes for forums.

Another thing, in my own experience most of Steams mods (unless you are burning troll) are usually a lot more "normal" leveled than here on GOG), where they give out warnings, bans and closing/deleting threads too fast and often just because of a small thing. Of course, it's in the eye of the beholder, but some mods are more sensitive than others.

Take this f.ex:

See how easy and straight forward that is instead of the vague statement of "appropriateness" / hate posting that is written in GOG policy? I got banned for a week on GOG right before new years eve just because of a bad joke, while never on Steam.

And I prefer the forum design on Steam because it's so much better in every way. It's better structured and they don't even have that useless down rate button and empty points (!). GOG has just let their own forum to rot for years, both technically and how they moderate it...

Steam also auto-censures words like dick and fuck, which is fine by me.

When looking for a problem with a specific game and ending up in the Steam forums I've had it happen that the first 3-5 replies were about how dumb the OP is, before there was an actual helpful answer. But I admit this has become better over the years - I guess Steam users get older too. ;-)
But that's something I can't recall happening here. Just the silly fun that ensues when people ask "Where is the wizard" on the general forum - but that's most likely on GOG/Galaxy misdirecting the posts meant for the game specific forum.

That depends on how you look at it.

Many people are shocked when they post here also due to the response. Even sarcasm (or general jokes) can often often be see as an "attack" or just because of a difference of an opinion. And even in the particular subforum for a specific game there can be people that simply attacks OP, that has happened on GOG also. Then again, far less times than on Steam.

And it also depends on which game you are interested in and what kind of people it attracts. It's no secret what kind of people FO76 and COD usually attracts, but again, it depends.

I don't know, might be because I've seen it all that I just automagically glance over such post if I'm not in the mood... a trick more people should learn to use.

I really think it comes down to specific game communities and topics. I'd think if you go to forums of very new and popular games, you are more likely to get rude answers from some random edge lord kid than if it's an older game with a dedicated fanbase. NWN forums on Steam, for example, are comparatively helpful, and Gothic community on reddit is pretty awesome, but if you go to the forum of Cyberpunk 2077 or some MMO/PvP game, I'd generally expect more people to post less helpful answers and more snappy remarks. Same with topics about DRM on Steam or pro-Steam threads on GOG.

I was wondering if the person was an alt account of TinyE or someone else of that nature of the past that used to do that. if not then whelp we always got something to keep us occupied for a while till the next person takes their shoes. lol

I think the bottom line is people are people. Each person has their own unique personality and maturity level. So, I think any forum will have a mix of both positive and negative no matter where you look.

At least that's how it appears to me.

My searches for answers to game questions have lead me to both Steam and Reddit and most times, things stay on topic thankfully. But there are certainly enough people out there that get angered easily, as evidenced by plenty of posts out there.

We've certainly seen intense reactions here on GOG, both positive and negative not too long ago. Things cool down at some point, again thankfully.

But one phenomenon I do see is that people tend to pile on when it comes to certain posts or topics and sometimes it seems to snowball out of control. And even normally rational people can get caught up in these.

I think when it comes to topics that invoke emotions, things can run at high temperatures and these tend to burn bright enough to capture a lot of attention at times. Whether that's good or not, is debatable.

Oh, i almost forgot. I once complained about the game's controls on k+m being unintuitive and straight up frustrating.
