Yep, it turns out that the new Jumanji is actually more like a live action version of Captain N: The Game Master.

I just... I can't. For one thing "haunted video game console" sound silly and is not nearly as spooky as the mysterious, old Jumanji set, and it ntroduces weid question we should not be asking, but it's hard not to. WIth the original Jumanji the game was obviously old, and it's origin remaining unknown wasn't a problem. It's a magical, mystical object from long ago, it's ok for it to be an enigma. But how in the hell does a magical game console get made? How, by who? Maybe it's just me, but for me that's a big difference. It's like the original Highlander, where the origina of the immortals and their rules is uknown, but the mysticism and the mood it builds makes it work even better that way, and suspending disbelief is easy, and then you get Highlander II and aliens from Zeist and the whole thing falls apart.

But maybe even more important- Jumanji was all about things from the game happening in the real world. The real world was being invaded by weird stuff from the game, that's were all the wonder of the movie came from. Reversing it ruins that. Anything can happen in a video game anyway, so whatever happens will not be nearly as impactful.

I guess if they ever make a remake of Neverending Story, it will be about some social media app instead of a book or something like that :P

I don't really see it working anywhere near as well with a video game as it did with a board game, for all the reasons you've already mentioned.
But it's a remake of a classic, so what do you then expect? Of course they will pointlessly modernize it and ruin it...

Well, we did get Fury Road, Star Trek Beyond, Ash vs Evil Dead, Kong: Skull Island - it's not impossible to return to a classic and make something good.

I haven't actually seen any of those (I don't watch many movies) so can't really compare. I just know most remakes tend to be a bit awful, particularly if you try to take the original story and change it slightly (rather than just taking the setting say and making something new)
This sounds really stupid. Then again, remaking a good movie (or anything, for that matter) is generally stupid anyway. Chances are it would be bad regardless of this change.
What about Jumanji: Doom, or Jumanji: Saints Row?
Or Jumanji: HuniePop?

Yeah baby! Yeah!
It really ought to be a haunted videogame cartridge. A game so terrible, that the player has been absorbed. I think it is called...Ruins of Virtue. "THIS GAME SUUUUUUUCCCCcccccccckkkkksssss...."

Or better yet, how about a game cartridge so evil that they are forced to take all known copies of it and bury them.

No, what am I thinking?! :P That is so stupid. No one would ever believe that! :D
As soon as I saw Dwayne Johnson I stopped reading. Some movies should stay as it instead of trying to be "remastered".
