When GOG.com first introduced their DRM-Free Movies feature, I couldn't help wondering why they would choose to sell DRM-Free movies at all. Then it finally hit me (I'm a little slow). I honestly can't think of any online service that actually sells digital downloads for movies without the use of their own third party software (iTunes, Amazon, Netflix, etc)

I'm sad to see that the response has been rather lacking, but I am excited to see what GOG.com does with this new feature. It would be amazing to see some of my favourite films being sold on GOG.com, DRM-Free!

I sincerely hope that GOG.com will continue releasing more [non-game related] movies. We desperately need this service!

Because the catalogue is rather shit.

I agree ... but imagine if you could purchase Star Wars, or any other big name movie ... DRM-Free!
I'd rather GOG focus their efforts on what their main business is: games.

Oh, and maybe focus a bit on the forums and the website too.

Why would I want to watch Star Wars on my computer? :P

This. A DRM-free movie service is something I've really wanted for a long time (it is quite annoying having to buy, rip and then store loads of DVDs), but the selection here right now is largely uninteresting.

I agree. I'd like to have the option to buy DRM-free films. But, it looks like that part of the site's on hiatus, since people asking about it haven't been getting any response whatsoever:

There are complications with getting worldwide rights issues to many films as well. I still hope something comes of this in some form.

Sure, I'd also imagine that it would be available to purchase in North America only. You would think that few video games now and then not being available for customers in Germany on GOG is annoying, wait till you see the extremely convoluted worldwide distribution rights for big name movies in action.

I guess I am one of those people who would rather watch their movies on their computer rather than a TV, because my computer is my main source of entertainment. Not to mention the fact that I actually don't even have a television. =)

I agree that GOG should focus on games (primarily), but the exact same DRM-Free principle exists in the movie world as well. If we want our world to truly be DRM-Free, then it must be in all aspects of entertainment, including movies.

I can agree with this, but I don't think it should be GOG filling that hole. Do one thing, and do it well. GOG's one thing is games.
I too wish for DRM-free video options. They don't exist anywhere else. It may never happen.

Barring adequate options, I'm pretty sure the television and movie studios are cool with everyone just pirating. Otherwise they'd give us those options.

EDIT: I've bought 46/55 here.

I found the perfect solution! GOM.com
I also hope they didn't give up about their DRM-free movie section. The big classics may still be out of reach, but there ought to be some interesting content which could realistically be made available here. More ( good ) Indie films, or what about old animated series/Anime? If it's some old forgotten classic, maybe GOG could manage to buy the rights entirely, like they've done for some old games.

This comes up regularly, once a month. The films branch was a fail, just like music would be, comics etc. Gog has made its business selling games drm free, that is their niche. Other stores try it and cant compete. Gog would have this trouble with film or music etc. Too many big companies out there have the market, and Gog couldn't get the catalog to interest everyone. Stick to what your good at.

music/ebooks >>>> drm free movies. Some of us thought GOG actually chose the wrong option....
