I'm new to this game.
It came free with Doom lol
I have read the walkthroughs etc and know what I should do with combat but it don't work.
Right Mouse Click and slash in various directions does nothing.
Is it a GOG fault or a general specific quirk with the game itself.

Has anyone else had issues with it?
Dying just after start doesn't make good game-play lol

Also be sure to include the name of your game in the text of your post. For those of us who have vision issues, we can't see the title of your post and have to view source to see what you're talking about.

Be sure to mention your OS and if you;re using Galaxy or not.
Did you just click the right mouse button and then move the mouse?

In order to swing the weapon, you have to hold down the right mouse button while you move in various directions.

Also, you have to have the weapon drawn via that button with the two swords.

Do note, however, that Arena is notoriously difficult. Dying in the starter dungeon is fairly common if you're unfamiliar with the game.

I presume, you picked up the longsword already?
Click on your portrait, "next page", select the longsword, "done" and "done".
Choose "attack", either by pressing "a", or by clicking on the button, with the two crossed swords.
Hold the right mouse buton down, while swinging right to left, or left to right...
I just tried it, for me it works.
Hi

I did search for it but nothing came up.

I'll have a look where you're pointing to. Thanks
Hi

I tried click then swipe. Also, hold click and swipe.
There is no movement at all.

I tried to practice before needing to fight but nothing.

The longsword is equipped and drawn.

I'll have a few more goes :-)

Thanks

Arena and Daggerfall both have click & drag, which quickly gets annoying in my opinion.
I agree.

I wonder if this is a GOG thing for Win10.
Daggerfall is pants too. Cannot get a swing on a sword.
I know I'm doing it right, it works 1 in every 50 attempts.
Tried messing with settings and controls. No change.

No wonder these games were free woth another. They dont work! lol

We know Bethesda has a long history of buggy/broken games. I watched some videos from LGR covering some of them, and the history of some of the releases of the games, which were broken at launch.

Bethesda also had a history of releasing their older games (At least TES) that are 10-15 years old for free, so Morrowind SHOULD be free, but they likely still are making enough money to make them hold off a while yet.

But oh well..

As for the combat system, i'd written a script using AHK a while back which would convert a common key command to an attack by making a dozen attack (click/drag) and then randomizing which one was used at that time. But i couldn't bring myself to play the game long enough to matter.
Do you have other games in dosbox where the right mouse button fails ?
Does the right mouse button work normally outside of dosbox ?
What happens when you're using the right mouse button ingame for other things ? (for example, right clicking on the travel button normally opens the world map, but that requires that you finish the first dungeon before)
Thanks for the info rtcvb32

I guess I'll not try these until something changes.

Just out of interest, do you know wich games in their series actually works properly on GOG?

Cheers
Hi Pouyou-poutou

Sorry to sound a complete noob to how GOG works on modern pc's. Years ago I knew how to tweek systems etc but now on Win 10 (after 7 years of Mac joy) I hate it so much I have no interest in getting into it again.

I just install a game via GOG Galaxy 1.2.41 and play. Until I read peoples comments I didn't know it used dosbox.
I dont use dosbox for anything else as far as I know and havent a clue what to do with it.

But Ive played all the Heroes and Might & Magic series with it and all functions are fine.
Havent tried any other games yet as I dont regognise 99.9% of whats available and dont wanna waste money on a game that might be cack or not work. Like Elder Scrolls lol

As regards to other functions in game, as I havent got very far before dying I have still to get used to the controls.
Everything else seems to work as far as I can tell but I don't know what the travel button is - is it the arrow to use mouse to move? But as I haven't left the dungeon perhps I can't test it yet.

One other thing, the general gameplay is really slow and functions are also delayed. Is this normal for the game?

Cheers

Arena works fine with dosbox as I did the game entirely several years ago.
However, it was my own dosbox setup with my own settings, and not the one included with the game.
Maybe you need to change the dosbox conf files. (delete it so as to have a brand new one with default settings?)

If there is a mapper.txt file in the dosbox directory, maybe you'll want to delete it to reset all controls.

To travel, you have to right click the map button at the bottom when you are outside. Left clicking it displays a map of the area while right clicking it shows up the world map. For that, you'll have to finish the first dungeon first.

If the game is too slow, maybe you can try increasing the number of cycles of dosbox (ctrl-F12 a few times, while ctrl-F11 decreases it).

Be warned, higher cycles doesn't always mean better performance, go too high and it will get slower & skippy. There's going to be a fine window where performance improves before it degrades. Generally it's under 10,000 cycles that i've seen, although i'm recalling from memory.

Pouyou-pouyou: The best performance I had for Arena was around 25,000 - 30,000 cycles.
My cycle estimates could be a bit off from memory...

The best performance I had for Arena was around 25,000 - 30,000 cycles.
It also depends on the cpu type. "Dynamic" allowed lower values than "normal" or "auto".
Hi Phatman, GOG are a bit lackadaisical when configuring these titles quake1 runs at 60,000 cpu cycles PERFECTLY in dosbox try editing the conf and put this in

it will say:

Cycles=fixed 50000

change that to read

Cycles=32768

turn Vsync on in your graphics cards control center
