Kamamura: Heroine Quest used to be available non-steam, direct installation too, strange they removed it.

Never mind, here is a link to slightly older, but playable 1.1.1 version. Actually, I finished the 1.0 version without problems:

Red_Frog: You are a gentleman and a scholar, I would give you three pluses if I could. I tried to search for a non-steam version but hadn't been successful thus far.
+ from me too. But where can you up (and down) people. I'm too blind, only see the up and downs for posts.

It's hidden, hover your mouse over a post and the controls appear along the borders.

funnyb: I'm actually thinking about booting up my first game bought in this sale...

I know! Crazy right?
You fool!

You'll doom us all!
On Smugglers : prepare for long moments of grinding to get what you want on your skill tree. The game has LOTS of different possibilities (bribing governors, setting up companies, managing a pirate empire ...) but it takes a while. Also the combat is rarely tense and tactical : either you are better and you win or the ship in front of you is bigger and you lose. Fleeing in combat is quite hard. The problem is you have limited lives which at first sounds cool in an rpg-type game but it certainly could have done without it (although getting new lives is not hard to achieve).

There's a huge universe to play in but the interaction with it is a bit stiff.

Overall if you don't mind some number crunching (trader) or lots of turn based combat (fighter), and want a good "personal" space sim, I'd recommend it, but I wasn't willing to put the time into it.
It definitely kept me playing for hours on end during my first days with it though.
Anyone here for the next like 8 hours and willing to save me a copy of Quest for Glory, Gobliins Pack and Capitalism? My GF insists on sleeping on the couch next to me if I don't go to bed with her ...

Tekkaman-James: Alien 8 for the Sinclair ZX81!

Alien8n: YES! (Except it was the Speccy)

A game that defined a new genre at the time with isometric 3d maps, a style that lived on right through to the Baldur's Gate series.
Yay!!!

Wait...what happens now? I don't even remember why we were doing this. XD

Rating the post rates the poster too.

HypersomniacLive: If I may make a suggestion - in case your browser is Firefox, Chrome, Safari or a fork of those you can install the Lazarus add-on, it auto-saves as you type in web-forms and provides easy recovery.
I'll have a try on it when this sale is over. Already have a lot of plug-ins installed, don't want to risk any browser problems now. Thanks!

Seems my vision is suffering as well. I will not surrender until I have what I want!

Or until the nightmare of Alan Wake is imminent, in which case fuhgedaboudet. I'll be more than happy to read about how it crushed Keane after the fact.

Or just type what you want to type into Notepad first, then copy, paste, and post into the forum.

All right everyone, its party time. Grab your favourite drink, your best game and your PC and be round at my place in ten minutes. I've got plenty of plug sockets and if we run out of chairs just sit on the floor. About time we met face to face is the way I see it. No begging off or you'll owe the rest of us a game. Right, get your skates on!

flickas: Thanks for the link, meant to search for something like that for ages, but usually forget until the next hindsight
You're welcome. I've been using it for years now, saved me so many times that I can't do without it anymore.

It also comes particularly handy when with support ticket submitted to GOG, as the reply you get never contains your original message - and now that I mentioned this, I hope that they make some changes so that you either can send a copy to yourself or include your message in their reply.
