Well I just played thru the first area. It really made me want the original Jazz Jackrabbit.

Every time someone makes a thread about or mentions this game I reinstall it.

What am I missing? :P

It's not bad but this isn't retro gold and it's not really that fun period.

tinyE: and it's not really that fun period.
Periods are never fun.

Tell me about it!

HEY WAIT! What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be waiting in line to snag your tickets for the new Matthew McConaughey movie?

So you have reinstalled it hundreds of times?

I don't know; I can't count higher than 10.
low rated
And that's news?

Have you tried Plague of Shadows? (There's a code that lets you unlock it without beating Shovel of Hope first, and using cheats to beat Shovel of Hope will count for unlocking Plague of Shadows as well.)

Gede: I never played Shovel Knight, but so many people rave about it. Why is it? What keeps it apart from other similar games?
avatar
Darvond: Okay, so did you ever play the old Capcom NES games like Ducktales or Megaman?
No, I have not. I know it makes it difficult to explain it to me.

clarry: I've been curious about Shovel Knight, but so far the price has put me off. In part because I'm not exactly the greatest fan of platformers, especially such fast paced ones...
Same feeling I have

mistermumbles: Even if you're not inclined to old console-style platformers, it's still a very well made game. It's indie "retro" as good as it gets since they've obviously put a lot of thought into what makes a game like it actually fun.
I believe you. Only it is a bit difficult to understand that from gameplay video. Too bad they don't have a demo. (At least I couldn't find one)

Be careful. If my experience is any help, I can tell that we don't all find the same things actually fun. I've been playing Shovel Knight a little now, and it really brings back the memories of old clunky frustrating platformers (mind you I haven't played many; I probably haven't played the best ones). Normally I love challenging games, I *love* challenge, and I'm really patient and calm with games. Normally I never rage at games.

But Shovel Knight kinda makes me rage and curse all the time... part of the problem is that I (obviously!) suck at these sort of platformers. But just sucking isn't normally enough to make me rage. I've done some deeper analysis, but I don't know if the conclusions are correct and I cannot be bothered to write about it, not now anyway.

That said, I cannot say it is a bad game. It might not be the game for me though. And, that said, I still intend to continue playing it: there are many good parts too. I love the graphics and soundtrack, and the game keeps rewarding me with new gameplay elements, mini-puzzles, new themes, new items... so pretty much all except gameplay is great for me. Maybe I will start to appreciate the gameplay too one day, if I just quit sucking. (Haha, not in a hundred years...)
