I have to second The Bard's Tale (2004) and would also recommend Superhero League of Hoboken even though that is an Adventure/RPG mix. But if Quest for Glory counts then so does this and it is mentioned in the CRPG book.
I'd mention Dink Smallwood. it's silly and totally over the top. and makes fun of other RPGs. and of itself.

Actually played that game myself, and I found that it was rather misogynistic.

(It also isn't the sort of game I'd give the RPG label to, as it plays more like Zelda 1.)

honestly don't remember it being "misogynistic". I'd say, violence-happy, laughing on the usual RPG way of dealing with problems. but OK.

Brilliant game. Considering its budget, it had great writing, was funny and an enjoyable romp from start to finish. I'd describe it as a hidden gem from the 90s.
