If you enjoyed Shadow Empire, you’ll be thrilled with this news – the newest DLC, Shadow Empire: Oceania is now available on GOG! To celebrate it, we’re happy to announce a 45% discount on the base game – but hurry up, because the offer ends on April 3, 2 PM UTC!

Shadow Empire is a deep turn-based 4X wargame with a unique blend of military focus, procedurally generated content and role-playing features. It places you into the seat of the supreme ruler of a small nation. Destiny and greatness awaits, but only if you succeed in reconquering a devastated planet. You’ll get a chance to plunge into an alien universe and explore another world in a dark and unforgiving future; all while taking command and engaging in great military conquests and delicate diplomacy. The newest DLC, Shadow Empire: Oceania, will introduce newly generated maps, and change the feel and ambiance of the game completely. It’ll also change the gameplay a lot and will make you experience a different style of game!

Now on GOG!
Out from the Shadow, and into the forum...
I have the game on steam and was thinking about buying both the base game and DLC here...

Though I have to say I'm somewhat disappointed to hear that you can't actually design and maintain your own Naval unit templates in the DLC. Apparently naval warfare is being abstracted with the new Maritime trading companies?

Need to keep watching DasTactic do his let's play until he reaches the point where Naval action is important for his game.. I'm also interested in knowing if Vic implemented the Unit Design UI improvements as suggested by the community.

Hah... until Vic introduces actual naval units, I think the game will have to go on my wishlist for now...

I noticed some talk about a later implementation of Naval warfare. Not by Vic though, though i thought to understand that implementation is at least thought of. Personally, i'm laying back for a while. I bought the game through the 'official channels', The Matrix/Slitherine store and received a steam key to go. I thought it necessary at the time, leave a review, ramp up hours, let other people be amazed, still if only managed to clock 26 hours on my account... especially since it is such a low grade non-intensive delightful offline game.

For now i'm eager to see if the new 'free' update that was released with the DLC manages to up the possibilities for the ai, especially concerning air combat. A topic on the news site here in the Netherlands was about some 'dude' shooting with an airgun(BB gun) on a Apache.... It would be nice to try such a thing in Shadow Empire ;p
And here I thought this game gets away without DLCs :(. Seems like Slitherine is going full Paradox mode and I have to start avoiding them completely.

What? All those Warhammer games didn't tip you off? =P Seriously though, this tends to be more on a dev-to-dev basis than the never-ending stream we can expect from most Paradox releases; thankfully the Age of Wonders franchise hasn't totally succumbed to that yet.
Apparently the developer could have plans to develop a proper naval units model eventually. But his intention is not to develop the classic individual naval counters. It will probably will be something more abstracted like the air model is.

If you ask me I prefer that approach but what I'd like the most is if the UI were less laggy and the processing overall faster. The game feels more heavier than it should.

I've bought the game last year, hoping nothing new will come :(

A new Update

A new update for Shadow Empire is out now. This update focuses on the Arachnids and their presence on almost all planets, allocations, balancing, game improvements and bug fixes.

Here are the patch notes:

During the Galactic Republic era domesticated Arachnids were present on many Planets as they were able to produce the raw materials needed to produce Starlace fabric, an ideal material to produce advanced heat shields for the re-entry into the atmosphere of spacecraft.

After the Dissolution War many domesticated Arachnids starved in their pens, but as they are quite clever, on most worlds, at least some of them managed to escape and they went Feral.

In their Feral stage there can be some reproduction, but it is only when the Arachnids reach their Hive stage (or higher) that they’ll get a Queen and get some serious reproduction going.

The Arachnids Minors have multiple levels now: regular, Hive, Swarm and Nexus. On the higher difficulty levels they’ll be able to spawn special castes as: Defendrix, Dominatrix and Exterminatrix, as well as Queens and Champions.

I'm thinking a whole lot of games while reading through the notes. Not to mention Star Ship Troopers :)

Shadow Empire actually really great strategy with some interesting gameplay machines. Just be prepared to spend days playing just one match.
