Purgatory ain't a bad place to be.

Pyre is now available, 25% off until March 13, 2PM UTC.
The makers of Bastion and Transistor introduce yet another wildly imaginative world. Form a team with the strikingly different exiles you meet and enter ancient, sports-like competitions that will determine who among them gets a second chance away from here. Depending on your choices and the outcome of these fast-paced matches, Pyre's branching story will shift dramatically - there is no fail state. Until, of course, you get too emotionally attached to one of your exceptional companions. As you know, that sort of thing never ends well...

Grab the excellent Soundtrack for your collection.

Ganni1987: Are you launching it from the GOG's start.sh script? You could try launching directly from the "game" folder.
avatar
Maighstir: I usually run the binary directly. In this case though, GOG's start.sh runs game/Pyre, which in turn is a shell script that decides which binary to run (OS X, 64-bit Linux, or 32-bit Linux), and the Linux binaries won't run with my default value for TERM (xterm-256color), setting TERM=xterm works, so I modified game/Pyre to set that temporarily.

As to why it crashes with that value, I don't know. Maybe it sees that value and makes other assumptions that fail, or maybe it just can't handle that a variable can have varied values in varied environments.
Thanks for the info. I haven't bought Pyre yet though.

Looks like Mono has issues if terminal is not in ANSI color mode:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/12979140/mono-console-app-in-256-color-terminal

Interestingly even though Arch is not a supported distribution, I have fewer issues running games on it, than on (supported) Mint or (unsupported) Debian. Generally after setting up the required libraries for the first few games, everything has been working smoothly (launching directly from the elf binary).

EDIT: Fixed typos.

drealmer7: then why the fuck did you reply to it in the first place?

do you have no ability to have a discussion with someone about something you disagree about ?

does everything have to be YAYYY GREAT POSITIVE? and if it can't be that 'OHHHNOOOO STAY AWAY!!!' ?

just because I'm not blowing smoke up your ass when you share your opinion doesn't make me an asshole

Enebias: Once again you seem pretty confident that by bashing your chest like a gorilla in heat you will magically have reason on your side. Might have worked with primates, but I suggest you to evolve your approach at problem solving if you are planning to fit in human society.
I would like to remind you that you have been replying to me, not the other way around, with rudeness and open insults, by the way, and you didn't make the minimum effort to even understand what I was saying. Why should I respond to someone that has already made his mind on a point and has already called me deluded even before I could speak my mind? I didn't seek you out, you did, because apparently my tastes are objectively bad in your totally arbitrary scale of values... a scale of values that you apparently don't consider that solid yourself, given your need for confirmation by a random stranger on the internet disagreeing with you.
You, my dear sir, have no ability to have a discussion, and you have proven it time and time again without me lifting a finger. Prove are your gratouitous insults to basically anyobody that addressed you, they are there for everyone to see.
Rather than trying to breach a wall, I'd rather take the long way around and avoid hours of pointless, frustrating posting against your rabid speeches.
Your opinion could have counted something, before you showed your true colours. Now you are just an annoyance, as I don't give value to anyone who does not understand the basics of respect.

You are not worthy of my attention. Only a pathetic half-troll with apparently nothing better to do that starting flames on a gaming forum. Alas, I am fireproof.
wow, you are truly an idiot

I tried to engage you initially because I thought we could have some back and forth about a game we disagreed about, you have shown no capacity for that and I'm giving you shit for it whilst trying to goad you into doing so, that doesn't make me a primate beating my chest, that makes me frustrated with your inability to engage and using rhetoric to try and break you from your braindead state

people's opinions CAN BE WRONG

HOLY FuCK WHAT A CONCEPT

if someone thinks mcdonald's is good, THEY ARE WRONG

it is that simple

drealmer7: people's opinions CAN BE WRONG
By definition they can't be wrong or right since they're purely subjective. Just saying.

Giving people shit is hardly a good way of engaging them in any sort of intellectual discourse.

Your groundbreakingly in-depth analysis of the game that was calling it "boring" was also hardly intellectualy stimulating. You find it boring, Enebias (and I and many others) do not. He gave you as much as an answer as you had given him.

At this point I very much doubt anyone here will be interested in discussing anything with you other than maybe some anger menagement course. You're being rude, obnoxious and agressive for absolutely no reason. Even if you were "right" you would still only have made yourself look like an idiot with this behaviour.

No, if they think it's healthy then they are wrong. If they think it tastes good, then that is exactly what their taste buds are telling them. If you seriously get so upset over people liking different food than you then you probably should seek professional help.

I am glad this game finally got a DRM-free release !

Was a bit frustrated of waiting after seeing this game in action before... with its art style, music and story that are very appealing to me*.
I already liked the previous titles from this dev studio and i feel their recognizable "touch" in this one as well.

Was afraid they would have decided to part with DRM-free releases, starting with this latest game of theirs.

(*yeah, it is a shameful problem that keep happening with tasteless dumb retards like me... ah, apologies for that... i never can tell why a game is so bad i shouldn't be allowed to feel like trying it... )

....Ok then, I'll chip in as well.

1. Calling a person 'delusional' does not constitute having a 'back and forth', as you call it, about a subject; it's an insult.

2. You state people's opinions can be wrong. I fully agree. However, this also holds for YOUR opinion. Yet, you state your opinions (about McDonalds, or Bastion, take your pick) as facts. Unfortunately, no matter how strong your opinion on a subject is, it is still no more than an opinion, based on nothing more than your personal findings.
A fact requires some sort of objective proof. I see none.

You say:

yet the way you try to engage in a discussion is:

avatar
drealmer7: can you at least help me understand why you prefer games that are a huge bore: extremely repetitive with buttom mashing and repetitive maps and a lameass story that pretends to be deep when it's shallow as FFF ?
the fault being that the game ISN'T a huge bore, but YOU THINK it's a huge bore and you don't give Enebias the chance to tell what he likes about the game, because you state that Bastion IS a bore and then continue asking Enebias why he likes game that ARE a bore. Meaning you miss the point of what Enebias was saying in the first place: it's a preference wether you like a game or not and preferences can't be wrong, but they're not the truth about a game either.

Likely not many people will like a game that they experience as a huge bore and extremely repetitive and if you try to understand why people like games that are a huge bore you start of with the wrong presumption: that your opinion is a fact and that everyone would see the game the way you do and then like the game anyway.

So let me correct your initial post:

avatar
drealmer7: can you at least help me understand why you don't experience the game as huge bore?

Not bothering to wishlist this one because I bought it as soon as it showed up on GoG. My only complaint is that it took so long to get here.

I'm about 6 rites in & so far I've been enjoying it.
Anyone else having problems with Pyre not saving progress and display settings?

See here: https://www.gog.com/forum/pyre/game_not_saved
I was watching a gameplay/ review video and have a question.
If you haven't played the game yet, but are interested in it stop reading as my question MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS. Now that that's out of the way, how many playable characters are there and is it true that the roster shrinks as you progress? A yes or no suffices, thanks! :)

The reviewer made it sound like an interesting design decision, pitt8ng strategy versus against, um, emotion and the feels that one may have built up for a particular character. I think it would add some replay value since it encourages the player to try out all of the characters.

Haven't bought it myself, so that's all second-hand

True enough...hmmm, guess I'll wait a bit and get Pyre later. :P
Thanks for answering my questions! :D
