No clue as to the "why".
The version I get delivered on Firefox contains embedded mp4-files that got converted from gif. Complete BS in my eyes but hey, who cares for bandwidth and performance these days :)

If the store page delivered to you is the same, your browser (or some addins) could block embedded mp4-files or block autoplay/autoloop of these.
After reading some William Gibson recently, adding this to my wishlist :) I hope story and characters are interesting there.

The 2D animated cutscenes in the trailer look really good.

It's probably worth searching for some videos of gameplay since it's not clear.

Tried the demo a couple weeks ago and movement was hardcoded to wasd, so keep that in mind.
