Choose a career. Choose your friends. Choose life.

Kenshi is now available out of In Development, DRM-free.

You are but another face in the crowd. Gather a group of other slobs, train them to become fighters, maybe start a rebellion against the slavers - make a difference. Or you can lead the quiet life of a farmer instead, as long as you can keep the beasts and cannibals at bay. This is a build-your-own-story sandbox RPG/RTS in a huge world full of opportunities, ruthless people, and random acts of cruelty.
If you buy/bought bundles a lot you may already own this. I got it in some gamersgate bundle back in 2012.

The game key that I got from gamersgate also works as a Steam key with no other steps to do (other than remembering your gamersgate login/password).

It's a much longer key than most Steam keys so I assumed it wouldn't work but it did.

The developers will also help recover/convert old keys into Steam keys, but at least with mine it just worked as is.

Don't ask how it plays since I have no clue.
Mad fookin' respect devs, I didn't expect it to be actually released. Gonna get meself early x-mas gift.

Sachys: *snip*
Is it comparable to Mount and Blade?
Is there also magic or only fights with weapons (melee, ranged)?
How advanced are the weapons?

In some ways its comparable to M&B - though combat is not seperated from the main map, and you dont build an army, but more a squad (or squads) of characters that gain skills as you want them to - theres plenty of unique characters with passive dialogues as you explore as well. You dont take over towns, but you can build your own settlements, and buy buildings in towns to do with what you will.

Theres no magic.

I'll just let you find out how advanced things get.

So the game is finished now? With campaign and all?
Thanks for the spoiler-free clarifications, Sachys. : ) Helps describe the game a bit better.

Definitely puts it in the "maybe" pile for me.

Technically your start conditions dictate the "campaign."

The same way that starting as a vassal in Mount and Blade made for a different playthrough (at least early on) than being non-affiliated.

Have owned Kenshi for years now (EA backer), and the game really matured. Definitely recommend for anybody interested in sanbox RPGs with a healthy dose of management (both character and settlement).

Also, the inevitable mods, since Kenshi was written with them in mind. Very open framework.
Trailer's track's on the spot!
A super ambitious indie title developed by a skeleton team that actualy made it to 1.0!? SOLD!

Sachys: I've played about 500 hours of this over the last few years.

Some things you need to know:

1: its not your standard RPG - you dont get any points to place in skills because you dont level up: everything is learned by doing. Want to get tougher? Gte the crap kicked out of you. Want to be better at defending yourself? Pick some fights and set that character to block. Want to be better at stealing? Go steal things (and probably get caught and get in fights).

2: its not your standard RPG - there are no quests. Various books about the place, along with some NPC conversations will slowly build the lore of the world around you. Its more about exploration and discovery.

3: fighting itself is done rather automatically, with player control emphasizing stance, positioning etc - this is where the tactical portions come into play (along with the building elements). there are no powers / cooldowns to be triggered - though your squad will learn new techniques as they increase an ability (various kicks for example with martial arts).
Yes but : is it good ?

Yes, it sounds quite different and seemingly enjoyable.
