Single-player retro FPS set in a small socialist country neighboring the Soviet Union after an unspecified disaster in 1986. Those times were dark and terrifying and so is the game.

HROT is now out of its early access and available with a -15% discount that lasts until May 23rd, 4 PM UTC!

You start in a civil defense shelter deep under a Prague Metro station. As a proud holder of the military readiness badge you know what your duty is: put on a non-functioning gas mask, load the vz. 52 pistol and protect the peace and your socialist homeland from the strange intruders.

HROT offers an impeccable experience filled with the classic gameplay and vibe of romeric shooters from the 1990’s, including a fitting brown retro aesthetic.

With the array of weapons (from a shotgun and a 13 SMG, to a rocket launcher and even some secret experimental Soviet battery-powered weapons, as well as a hammer and a sickle), handcrafted levels inspired by real locations with an emphasis on historical details, and socialist paraphernalia which nowadays can only be found in museums or Eastern Bloc grandmas’ attics, it’s a one of a kind FPS which will entertain you for hours on end.

Add HROT to your library now and check out our ongoing Boomer Shooter sale for even more rampage fun.
Awesome game. Highly recommended.
These Devs: We made everything brown, like in retro games!

Me, playing quite a few retro games all with lots of colors: Hmm....
An event I was waiting for! :)

Thank you, Spytihnev, for this Socialistic gem! :)

Yeah, that sure as hell wasn't a general '90s thing (even just counting FPS games). The first couple Quake games helped blaze that trail, but they were outliers in their gray & brown grunginess at the time -- I wouldn't say it even became a major AAA trend until some time around the mid '00s (though I don't recall what I've seen of most of those later "dull, muted colors = serious"-era games being quite as aggressively ugly as those early Quakes).

Game is heavily influenced by the first Quake, which we all know that brown and browner were the style at the time
This game rocks, been with it since it first appeared on GOG and have finished it today.
Installing the demo to see what it's like. If I likes it, I might buys it.

EDIT: I buys it.

The colours are meant to resemble some kind of socialist brutalism and the visual style absolutely nails it, unlike so many other retro shooters which just try to look as pixelated as possible without any sense of aesthetics

Maybe I should tag sarcasm/humour next time.

Since you didn't get the joke, do you want me to explain to you what shit and brown games have in common?

Spoiler: The color. ;-)

Or just write better jokes. Or at least try to, since it might be hard for boomers.
