Hello darkness, my old friend.

<span class="bold">Downfall: Redux</span>, the bold reimagining of the twisted horror adventure game, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount. Buyers will also get the original Downfall for free.

Sustaining a healthy marriage through the years can be an uphill battle. Joe and Ivy thought they could pull it off but now the cracks are beginning to show. Joe books them a romantic getaway to the Quiet Haven Hotel, convinced that they can still fix this. But his wife is behaving strangely, as though she doesn't even want them to try. And this place.. The Quiet Haven Hotel is not at all how Joe had imagined it. Or perhaps it is exactly like that.

Downfall: Redux is a completely overhauled retelling of Joe Davis' bloody, desperate struggle to win back his wife. Like in the haunting The Cat Lady, the adult themes, the grotesque images, and the macabre story will stay with you long after your visit at the Quiet Haven Hotel has come to its disturbing end. And as with every gripping nightmare, you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.

Dive into the abyss and swim alongside your most unspeakable nightmares as you descent into <span class="bold">Downfall: Redux</span>, DRM-free on GOG.com. Everyone who buys the game will also receive Downfall(2009) for free. Those who already own the original will find a 50% discount code for Downfall: Redux in their library. The code will be added to Downfall(2009) in your shelf and can be redeemed until March 15.
The 10% discount will also last until March 15, 4:59 PM GMT.

omega64: So... where in my library is the code?
When does it expire?
Click on the original Downfall and you'll see it just below the installer links :)
avatar
Dalthnock: That's it, I'm drawing the line here on this latest fad.

And what's more, I was beginning to purchase new games, but now that's over.

I will just wait until the game is really, really old to make sure there are no "redux" or "definitive" or whatever else.

I guess supporting developers is a mug's game? You give them an inch, they'll ravage your wallet.

Pity it was an apparently independent developer that broke the camel's back for me, but I refuse to support this ridiculous concept any more.

I'm tired of being dick-slapped in the face. Paying for patches is just retarded.
avatar
omega64: Wait really?
This seems really different to the original. More of a remake than an extended edition or whatever.
What's wrong with remakes?

omega64: So when does it expire?
I've never used a gog coupon before. :P
Feb 11 2026. You got 11 years to make up your mind :P

EDIT: correction, the codes have been set to expire on March 15th 2016. Sorry for the confusion, everyone!

toxicTom: The OP said March 15, but omitted the year...
I've just used the code but didn't check the expiry date, sorry.
"The 10% discount will also last until March 15, 4:59 PM GMT."

Different discount :P That's the one for people who have never bought the original Downfall :)
avatar
huppumies: I really liked the dark atmosphere of Downfall, but not sure if getting this one. Anyway, nice release.
avatar
vicklemos: Quite shocking, isn't it?
I got this one and I'm amazed that they changed a ton of things, and it looks that it's for the best (I mean, "dirty diapers" best).
Hopefully, that original atmosphere is still out there!

vicklemos: Thought it would expire in March 15..
I bet that some """brave""" dudes will buy this one and won't play it in 11 years.. you know, they're so brave ;D
It does. That was my bad on the expiry date :)

mrkgnao: If someone WHO DID NOT OWN THE ORIGINAL ON GOG buys this, do let me know because I want to find out:

1) Does the original come for you as a bonus in the Redux's box or as a box by itself?
2) Does the original come for you with the soundtrack and wallpaper or not?
1. Separate box on your shelf for the original.
2. Yes, it comes with the original goodies it came with.
avatar
mrkgnao: I was half-sarcastic. Of course it's normal GOG procedure, which I nevertheless don't understand despite repeated attempts.

Still I find it in poor taste to remove a game that costs $5 and comes with a soundtrack and a wallpaper and replace it with a pair of games that cost together $14 and come with neither, and not leave the option to buy only the original.

[...]
avatar
HypersomniacLive: So was I. We need to do something about that, me thinks.

Can anyone who did not own the original from before clarify if the original comes with any of the extras it had or if it's just the game installer?
If the latter it's way beyond poor taste, imho.

avatar
mrkgnao: [...]

In that case, I really fail to understand why they couldn't have made it free here too.
avatar
HypersomniacLive: And puzzled you shall remain.
It comes with the original extras.

mrkgnao: Super. Thanks.
You might want to add "original soundtrack" and "original wallpaper" to the game page's bonuses.
I didn't have a chance to do so today (very busy Monday) but I'll add them tomorrow, thanks! :)

mrkgnao: *snip*

mchack: out of curiosity, I downloaded the now Freeware Version of Downfall (2009) from the dev's page (http://www.quiethavenhotel.co.uk/) and it does indeed come with the complete sountrack (21 tracks in ogg though not mp3 as on gog - also it says version 1.4 and gog says 2.0 but I don't know if there's even a difference) haven't seen a wallpaper bundled though ;)
Ours is also 1.4 and should be displayed as such in your library now :)

HypersomniacLive: So you were fooling us all this time? ;-P
Hmmm not when it comes to game versions :) It just needed the game version re-posted is all :)

eiii: The graphics quality of the game has been improved, which is a good thing. But does this justify to triple the price from $5 to $15?

No language or operating system support has been added. Even worse the minimum system requirements have been increased by a lot. Quad core processor in such a game, what for?
Russian, Italian, and Brazilian-Portuguese language support will be added later :)
avatar
eiii: Thank you!

I like the improved graphics of the redux version, but due to the heavily increased system requirements I will not be able to run it on my system. Sorry Harvester Games and Screen 7, for now you aren't getting my money because of that.

But the original, free version of the game even seems to run under Wine. So personally I can see this change positive now. I was on the fence to buy the original game. I've missed it on the last sale half a year ago, otherwise I probably would feel cheated now. The 50% discount for owners of the original game is not really a good offer.

Edit:
I'm just playing the free version of the game. Is it a limitation of the free version or maybe a problem in Wine that the game does not have voice-over? Or did the original version of the game also not have voice-over?
I haven't played the old version in a while but I don't recall it having voice acting.

Also, the new version runs in WINE but I can't seem to get it to go full screen despite emulating a desktop at 1920 x 1200 and not checking the box "Run in a window instead of full screen" in winsetup.exe :)

It's an AGS game and most AGS games run just fine in WINE without any major tweaks :)
I finished the game last night and it really has been reworked from the ground up. Not only has the engine been changed but the story itself went some massive changes in certain places.

If you want spoilers, PM me, but rest assured the game is a LOT more connected to The Cat Lady now than before :)

LynetteC: Not a happy camper. I just redeemed my 50% code but instead of taking me to the checkout page it deducted the £5 from my store credit!
Hi Lynette,

Please send us a Support ticket via this link: https://www.gog.com/support/contact/my_orders_and_payments select your Downfall Redux order, and select "gift/promo code issues" and explain what happened so we can get you sorted :)

Sorry about this!

LynetteC: And therein lies another problem! All of the orders on that dropdown list are from at least last year - I even spotted Warsow on there which was one of the free games I got when I registered here two years ago!

This isn't the first time this has happened - when I redeemed the Pathologic redux code it did the same thing. Perhaps your website developers need to look further into this?
Then pick "Not applicable" and mention the game in the ticket's title and give the same info to Support that you gave me :)
