Might get an update during the Paradox Announcement Show 2023 on next Monday:

"We’ve got big news!

3 new games, 4 new expansions, gameplay reveals, and updates! Colossal Order, Harebrained Schemes, Paradox Tectonic, and the whole Paradox family of studios will be there. Tune in here on March 6 at 18:00 CET."

There's been speculation that Bloodlines 2 has been given to Harebrained Schemes for salvaging/bringing it over the finishing line (also since, like Hardsuit Labs, they're located in Seattle too where Bloodlines 2 is taking place), maybe there will be confirmation that this is indeed the case.

Have mixed feelings about Bloodlines 2 even though Bloodlines is among my favorite RPGs.

Tarhiel: Thank you for pointing this out.
I am just disappointed with Paradox´s move and firing Mitsoda without a reason is a red flag big enough on its own.
The whole reason people flocked to the game was precisely because they had these guys on board, and now they´re firing them?

Damn it, this was a first game in a very long time I have preordered and after this it will probably stay that way.
Never would have occurred to me that they would do such a disappointing move.

Swedrami: Sure, fair enough.
Given the manner in which they were unceremoniously booted from the project I can understand why most people would want to take or already have taken immediate action by cancelling their pre-order. I likely still will do so as well when or if more details should come to light.

I also cannot see them alter the story or the narrative in any significant way at this late stage in development. Mitsoda may be gone from the project physically but not in spirit. I think Bloodlines 2 is still going to retain most, if not all of Mitsoda's "handwriting", so to speak.
Even just re-recording a few lines of voice-over (and if I remember correctly the game is fully voiced except for the stereotypical mute player character) may be too costly and not fit in with the already recorded lines, in tone as well as overall context. They still might get some in but then we wouldn't even know due to not being able to compare to the original.

After seeing the great work Harebrained Schemes did with their Shadowrun trilogy, they seem like a very good fit for Bloodlines 2.

It's also slightly more likely that they will provide a Linux port, given that they did so for Shadowrun and BATTLETECH. They are under no obligation to do so, of course. It is a different kind of game, so I'm not sure they are any more suited to such a game. Frankly, I wish they had diverted back to Shadowrun after BATTLETECH petered out. I suppose we'll never see another construction-set like RPG from them. Unless they do something similar with Bloodlines, though, but I expect that to be real-time first/third-person like other 2 VTM games. If it isn't, there will probably be a backlash.
I hope it's not HBS. After abandoning Necropolis here, I have zero faith in them.

A quick look at timing, it looks like they were burnt by an immature multiplayer API and lack of industry suppor (there was a lot of teams that couldn't do and still cant do MP on GoG) t. Also GOG policies of the time likely forbid 3rd party account based multiplayer (don't know of any GOG game of that time that used it), which was dropped by the time Battletech came out

"The masterclass creators of cyberpunk classic Shadowrun and hulkin’ mech warfare BATTLETECH are going to bring video game storytelling home. Prepare for Harebrained Schemes’ latest title."

Again considering that Seattle is both the location in which Bloodlines 2 takes place and where Harebrained Schemes is based in...
It's possible that it might not being developed by Harebrained Schemes at all.

Another rumour suggests that The Chinese Room is actually the developer: https://www.theloadout.com/bloodlines-2/developer-the-chinese-room
Whatever happens with this game, all it did so far was decrease the discounts on the original Bloodlines. Used to be -75% regularly, now it's rare for it to get -50%. Either cancel it already and bring the original discounts back or do something with it already.

The game's been in development hell since the announcement.

Then they should not have promised to get MP working.

While I'd like to agree, I've underestimated a technical issue more times than enough to understand why they broke that promise.
Impatiently waiting...
If they change the story in any capacity, then they won't even get half the sales that they expect. Brian Mitsoda's story involvement was the big selling point of the sequel.
