Ice_Mage: This is listed as not having achievements (either here or on Steam) even though Syberia 3 has them. Hopefully it's just an oversight that will be corrected before launch.
Why? Achievements are a completely useless distraction that detracts from the gameplay experience. I wish achievements were not included in any game I play. It's not school, I do not need a golden star to show my friends I managed to complete the game. That makes it a chore.

And Syberia 3 is one of the worst adventure games ever created. Hope this one honours Sokals legacy.

Once again the same discussion. Why can't we just accept that some people like what others dislike? So if you dislike achievements, which is off course perfectly fine while also purely subjective, in most cases it is not a problem at all since you won't see them if you have turned them off in Galaxy (not possible with ingame achievements but these aren't the achievements Ice_Mage wants). However if they aren't included at all there is not even the option for people lile Ice_Mage to turn them on. So let them include them and people who dislike them won't use them. I really fail to see the problem here. This way both partys can be happy which for that reason imo makes it the best way.

Because simply accepting others statements does not make you any wiser? Which is why I asked why he wants them.

It's really strange to berate someone for asking a question and stating their opinion, and then go on to argue and state your own opinion on the matter, while complaining that the discussion is old. If you have had this discussion many times before, why do you participate in it? I have never had it, and I fail to see the point of achievements. And like you yourself stated, some games do have in-game achievements, something which I think is really damaging to the overall gaming experience.

Those who want achievements consider them to be additional gameplay and like to collect them to show others.

It wasn't me who had this discussion but it has been discussed in this forum for years over and over and every time those who dislike achievements are posting that they think that they are useless. Then it is going back and forth and in the end nothing has changed and nobody has learned anything new. It is getting a bit old after a while which is why I said that we had this discussion so often. For whatever reason some people hate even optional achievements and I just wanted to say that in such case they simply should turn them off and let those who want to have them enjoy them. I explicitely said that ingame achievements are a different thing since those can't be turned off and therefore those who dislike achievements would have to suffer (in case these ingame achievements have a popup inside the game). However Ice_Mage was talking about Galaxy achievements and those can be turned off. Please don't get me wrong. I completely respect your opinion of achievements being disturbing (if they can't be turned off) but your wish to not have any achievements in any game - not even optional ones - would hurt those who like them even though the optional ones would not even affect you. That is what I wanted to say.

SO di I, but I am not optimistic.

Fair enough. I still have not learned what people get out of achievements, which is why I asked.

I believe your skepticism is justified.

Like I said: additional gameplay because they have additional goals. Also unlocked achievements can be shown to others and it can be a kind of competition as well. Some achievements might just mark your game progress without adding anything new to it but some achievements involve additional tasks and therefore an additional challenge. Of course you could just tell others that you were able to achieve your self proclaimed goal to kill 200 monsters in a game but only with achievements you will be able to prove it. Even those who love achievements will agree that some achievements are more useful than others though. Dying 2000 times i.e. is not really something anyone would call an "achievement" but in this case "completism" sets in and those who already achieved the other tasks might also try to get this one. Of course this is just a psychological trick but it will make those play the game longer and give them the impression that they have more gameplay.

What you are describing sounds really unhealthy.
The third game got a bad reception so let's hope they've learned from their mistakes with this fourth game.

To be honest, I didn't even see the need to restart the franchise. To me, Syberia 2 had the perfect ending.

Where there are fans there is money .... I agree that the story has a perfect conclusion in Syberia 2 but so many were willing to pay for another Syberia game.
Launch Trailer (18th of March)
low rated
