PlayStation, Xbox or other manufactures (e.g. Logitech)? I've decide to buy a Xbox 360 controller, but this article says it has a "poor D-pad". And at same time, many PC games support Xbox controller and work with it very well. So what do you recommend? Thanks.

Unless you're planning on playing games that specifically require using a d-pad it doesn't really matter.
Xbox 360 pad is easiest in general as it just works.
See this thread: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/anyone_owns_an_xbox_one_controller_perticularly_a_wired_one
Get the X360 controller. Should support the new games and can be made to include third party support for the older games.
I use a XBOX 360 controller (the wired one) for PC gaming. I like the Playsation controller a bit more but it is really easy to use a XBOX controlle with Windows.
I always wonder about this "it is so easy to use a XBOX controller with windows"... I mean... I have a Logitech controller, I plug it in and it works. Can't get much easier than that o.O

Same with XBOX controller. For example for an Playsation controller you need some extra software to get it working.
Other than the obvious Xbox 360 controller which most ppl r recommending, i think the Logitech controllers r pretty gd also. U can choose the F710 if u prefer wireless or F310 otherwise. Personally i liked the F510 but it is discontinued.
See if you can still get a Logitech Rumblepad 2 or a cordless Rumblepad 2, personally I find them a lot better than X360 controllers and X360 compatibility can be easily achieved by using x360ce with a lot more flexibility than you'll ever get using a X360 controller.
The only thing to note is that these don't have analog triggers but the D-pads are a lot better than those of X360 controllers.
I bought mine 2nd hand for very cheap and got two of each, the plastic exterior just needed a bit of siliconspray.
I guess you can't go wrong with the $17 Logitech F310
Xbox One controller. It's same as Xbox 360, but with a better D-Pad. It's best to go with Xbox One + Play and Charge Kit pack.
I would recommend you ask friends to test out the controllers they have, and see which is more comfortable and offer support for the titles you play the most.
I never had an Xbox controller, however, I did test/play at a friend house, and I didn't enjoy it very much, it was a bit uncomfortable, even now I would rather take one of my controllers with me every time I visit a friend. Most of the time I had Thrustmaster and SPEEDLINK controllers, and most of them broke because of a damaged analog stick. There was no smashing or dropping involved, it was just long time use (1-2 years, pretty often). I got the Steam controller recently, and I took it to a friends house. He tested it with a few games: first person shooter, racing, fighting and platformer. Before this, he said that the controller has a ridiculous design and appears to be very uncomfortable, but ever since he got his hands on one and tested it himself, he saw how great of a controller it actually is, and he is getting one as well.
Also, you might be able to test out controllers at a store, there are a few places with game demos for PS and Xbox games.
In the end, for me, the Steam controller is the best option, for the Linux support and the full customization.

As long as you don't object to the Steam client and isn't overly conservative about button layout and can learn to utilize Haptic Feedback I definitely recommend the Steam Controller.
PowerA XBox 360

And gotta love the x360 BUT with that d-pad.. humm.
Better yet: if you can, OP, grab one of the logitech chillstream ones. They're kinda rare but oh boy, no sweaty hands is just antoniobanderas.gif
