tinyE: I always play as a female. I think it results in part from when I was a kid watching David Bowie get up on stage and push the limits of androgyny and being totally in awe with his ability to play with gender rolls so beautifully and seemingly so easily. That's part of it, the other part being the fact that (sexist statement incoming) in my experience, women are all around more competent human beings than men. I feel safer with a female leading the way, more assured. I envy that in them and use games to vicariously live with that ability and aura.

Thank you, kind sir. This must be saved.

Indeed. Although I strongly dislike generalising, I do agree with tinyE. In many ways, I admire, and even envy, women – in spite of the fact that I was aggressively shoved aside on the sidewalk, for no good reason, by a downright cranky young woman last Friday. ;)

Oh, believe me, I envy women. So much is in their favor right now in the west. Violence alone can be verified with a few youtube searches.

That said, I would totally miss the power I have to punish women who behave very badly. At the end of the day, gender roles are biologically set, and while we've done alot to eradicate female gender roles (not male roles, that's for sure, since it is our role to be disposable), we certainly cannot get rid of some roles. So for every woman that abuses the power society gives her, we men have the pleasure of rejecting them, which denies them a role their hormones enslave them to seek, even if it's already been fulfilled once.

EDIT: To clarify, when the tables were turned long ago, we men were the ones who suffered (we could never know if they said what they said because they actually thought it or if it was to stay alive). Even when "women were property," we still couldn't control them. Whichever gender is favored by society will be judged and executed by the unfavored gender.
