Doesn't GOG get 30% of the money for the games bought through it or does that not cover CDPR titles?

lukaszthegreat: wow. eighty million usd to make the game?
I guess Charles Dance's fee was steep. :p

A pity he didn't have more lines.
Pretty good for a company valued at 500m

They will use it for Cyberpunk 2070 .

Yeah, it sure sounds like any profit they gained from TW3 is likely to pay for most if not the entirety of Cyberpunk. I wonder how long it'll be before we see new/actual footage of that game. Probably not until late next year at the earliest, seeing as CDPR won't switch full gear to that project until TW3's two expansions are out.

That's obscene amount of money

MaximumBunny: They have to pay "industry professionals" full time wages over the course of several years. Obviously there are people in their overvaluing themselves too. Everyone thinks they're worth $1,000,000 these days, even 3-5 man indie groups who spend too much time working on stuff they should have finished ages ago. That's where the "budget" gets eaten.

There was a time when people worked a game in their garage. They said "it is finished!", released it, and the world got quake/doom/etc. - some quality titles that revolutionized gaming. Now it's "We need $50,000,000 before we even consider working on this project because it's not worth it if we don't get paid first. In our free time? HAH! You're so out of touch with reality." - (says the person asking for millions. touché)
woho. wait up now.

are you suggesting people should work on games for free?

Gaming development is one of the worst jobs when it comes to software development. People already sacrifice a lot of themselves to make games and you are suggesting that they should have done it for free?

Let's recap:

They suffer from:

Extremely long hours. never 9-5 but 7-11 six days a week and often even sundays. Crunch time is normal time.
No stability. Everyone can be fired on a whim. most of them do get fired after game is completed when there is no immediately another game being produced.
Shit pay. They are not paid millions of dollars. They are paid below what people in other software development departments are paid.
Incredibly stressful. Combine all above points and add internal pressures from coworkers and managers.

but nah. you say they overvalue themselves and should spend their own money to make a game for a company.

lukaszthegreat: wow. eighty million usd to make the game?
Not really. Supposedly according to people who can read the original statement, only about one fourth of that was used to actually develop the game, the rest was marketing ...

I doubt it works that way with CDPR titles.

I hope you didn't spend a long time making that silly nonsense post. :P

Developers are among the worst money managers ya know. Artists would be up there too...if they made any money. Huehuehue. ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°

and yet there's an abundance of games on the market and the supply is the highest ever and that means many see this domain as some mecca.
so it can't be a dream job and the worst job at the same time ...

It can. Most games are programmed by young people. Because it is a dream job. but attrition rates are very high in the industry and most don't stay for long in it. Especially when working for big publishers.
