Why do you despise it? Because so many people (including me) claim it is the best TES game? (Edit.: sorry, what I said doesn't make any sense if you hated every second of it)
But, what's wrong with it? The fighting system?

i just didnt like it
the story is bland
the graphics horrible mostly brown and more brown and more brown
the models are ugly

i didnt like the setting
nor did i care for its system of throwing you in a complete and utter unknown world and doesnt lift a finger to help you out
you better get used to walking a lot because there are no markers or fast travel
other people may like that but i dont enjoy running around a huge open world with no clue what to do or where to go

I love it that the game throws you into an unknown world and that its inhabitants show you the ropes.
If you want to get somewhere unknown better ask people and buy a map of that region. In my opinion the silk striders and teleportation services are really cool methods of implementing fast travel.
I see that having no map markers is not exactly a plus but what's great is that you can play without map markers, which is nigh impossible in Oblivion and totally impossible in Skyrim. :)

i disliked morrowind the first time i played it and it didnt get any better over the years

Nope, released 15 years too late...hint (since I don't think my numbers 2 and 3, especially 2, have any bearing on my favorite)...SNES game

Mine will be hard to guess without a hint. While I noted coin-op games, my favorite was one played on the Magnavox Odyssey II.

edit: updated to give clues by letter placement. :)
hint #2, the Steve Miller Band had a song of the same name.

You got it! That game used to drive my dad crazy when my brother and I learned how banging into the walls either helped or hindered.
