Keep things on topic, it's gone from a question about politics in video games to a people dropping history lessons and minor political rants that don't have much connection to the topic at hand. This isn't a time to have a pop at Trump or any other world leader unless it's directly relating to the topic.

Mafwek: Negative character is meaningless in history, because negative and positive depends on your perspective and values.

LootHunter: In history? Yes. In media - not quite. Remember that we are trying to find why there are "too many white straight male heroes" in the media (including games). According to the "social justice" ideology it is because west culture is "inherently racist, sexist and homophobic". I argue that it is because west culture IS west culture. If you want media to propagate liberal views, human rights and other western culture values, you obviously have to use types of heroes who fight for those values. Thus prototype of those heroes would be historical figurew, who also fought for similar values.

Mafwek: Europeans praised cultural achievements of Romans, and their civilization was built on conquest. From that perspective, they are no better than Romans. Same thing with Arabs and Western European powers, former's cultural peak came after conquest, latter built their cultural achievement by exploiting colonies. Looking from that perspective, it's pretty difficult to say they were better from Mongols.

LootHunter: So, tell me, who are better in reflecting western liberal values? Romans, who at least were trying to bring their commodities to the conquered nations, albite for a price of their resources? Or the Golden Horde, that basically just extorted money from the nations they defeated?

And yes, I know what you will say. Romans were no generous benefactors, they were corrupt, decadent and devious, scheming for grabing power to themselves only. You right, they were. And that's why Rome almost never shown in the media, and when it's shown - never in positive light. And if we have some Roman protagonist this protagonist is a commoner or even slave, rebel against the Rome. All fictional nations inspired by Rome were shown either outright hostile like Romulans in Star Trek, or society on the brink of collapse, like Republic in Star Wars Prequel Trilogy.

LootHunter: Excluse me, but history is directly related to politics. And the media.
Go look at some of the past posts in this thread. I'm not asking much for people to stay on topic.
This thread is going off into directions that are worrying. It's getting locked.
