OHMYGODJCABOMB: Speaking of achievements in Hyperdimension Neptunia U, it's definitely a GOG Galaxy bug.
Today I found that achievements work when the overlay is disabled.
If anyone has the same problem with achievements in Hyperdimension Neptunia U (and possibly other Idea Factory games), just disable overlay in GOG Galaxy settings.
Alexim: Thank you, I can add that into the tips.
That might work sometimes, but for me it doesn't work all the time for all Idea Factory games.
Just now I had more problems with the Achievements in Death End Re:quest 1. Previously I'd reported in this thread other examples of similar problems with the same game.
Well, since then, these things have happened:
1) I've beat the final boss of the Pain Area, which should unlock the "God Save the Queen" Achievement. But it did not unlock on my account.
A week later, I did it again, and the Achievement also did not unlock then, either.
That one is especially annoying to miss, because to (theoretically?!) earn it, you have to beat 75 very grindey, very bullet-spongey battles.
And the closest "save point" near the final boss of that Dungeon is way back behind 8 of those grindey battles, followed by the boss battle, all of which the player will have to repeat every time they re-try to pop the Achievement that fails to pop the first time, like it should have (meaning, it's a very annoying grind just to get the Achievement one-time, and even more so if you have to repeat the last 8 battles more than once due to a bug making the Achievement not work).
2) I completed the criteria to earn the "Thought You Were Finished, Huh?" Achievement (which is the choice to see "the normal ending"), but it failed to pop.
Then I re-loaded my saved game at the same point in the game and made the choice to see the "true ending," and it correctly popped both of the Achievements that it should have for "Clear Chapter 11" and "Defeat the Final boss."
3) Then I reloaded my saved game again from the same point, and made the choice to view the normal ending again, and this time the Achievement "Thought You Were Finished, Huh?" did pop.
So, based on my experiences of very inconsistent, sometimes-working, sometimes-not-working Achievements with both Death end re;Quest and Dragon Star Varnir, I'm going to assume that something is wrong with the way that the devs coded the Achievements for these games (and probably other Compile Heart games too).
But I could be wrong about that, since I'm just guessing, and I have no way to determine what is actually causing the problem. It's definitely not an internet connection problem on my end, though.
And I tried disabling the Galaxy overlay for some of the events which I've just described, and disabling it had no effect on making the Achievements always pop when they should.
I theorize that it's possible that for the other poster who said that worked for him with Hyperdimension Neptunia U...it's
possible that Achievements started working for him with that game by
coincidence after he disabled his Galaxy overlay, and he is concluding a causal relationship because of the order of events that occurred.
But I'm guessing about that too, since I have no way to verify that.
For someone who does have these problems, it's worth a try to disable Galaxy Overlay. Although even if that does 'work,' it still takes half the fun out of earning Achievements anyway IMO, since you can't see or hear them pop up on your screen if Overlay is disabled, even if they do get recorded as unlocked on your account.
I really wish a dev at GOG and/or Idea Factory would look into these issues of inconsistent Achievement functionality on Idea Factory games.
