I check Eurogamer for general mainstream news, PC Gamer for PC specific news and GameBanshee for RPG news. These sites sometimes have annoying political articles but it's very rare compared to something like Kotaku, which is unbearable.

I normally use sites that focus on something specific: RPGamer, RPGSite, strategyandwargaming.com, Real and Simulated Wars, Let's Talk About Wargames, eXplorminate (strategy & 4x games), indiegamewebsite (Indie games only), etc.

For general coverage I quite like GameSpace and GameFront.
