My son wants a couple of GoG games for Christmas. You can't gift a game on GoG like on Steam so how do I purchase a coupon for the amount that he can redeem for the games? I have not been able to find on GoG how to purchase a coupon, only how to redeem them.

You cant buy coupons but you can gift an order. At checkout simply select "gift this order" - you can opt to send it to somebodys email address or send it to your own. You (or they) will get a gift link that will take you to the redeem page.

Edit: under https://www.gog.com/account/settings/orders you can see your orders and gifts - theres a 20 digit code on gifts that can be redeemed at https://www.gog.com/redeem so you can (if you want) print it / write it on a card.

You could give a prepaid debit card that he can use directly to purchase the games he wants.
Buy a gift

(You might like to type in your own mail address & hand the key(s) over to your son on x-mas day.)

But there are limitations which unfortunately apply to your case.

Hence you would have to contact support & explain your situation.

Alternatives:
a)
paysafecard

b)
add money to the wallet in your son's account (but you can't load money from one acc to another,
you would have to be logged in to your son's account).

Just add the sum you're willing to spend on those gifts to your son's account wallet, easy as. And more flexible than coupons, anyway.
He can't buy a gift because he just made this account and isn't a customer.
Your options (being a new user account which has not purchased anything here yet):

1. Login to your son's account (sit with him) and use your money to purchase the games at checkout.
2. Login to your son's account (sit with him) and add money to your son's "GOG wallet", allowing him to pick and choose the games at his leisure.
3. Buy a Paysafe card (it's a prepaid debit voucher) and give it to your son to use on the site.

I forgot, gifting is restricted on new accounts now.

Yeah this would be the problem. And i was going to comment about how coupons are free, just go to the expiring codes thread....

Hmmm the safest option would just be to wait until you can buy codes to gift at this point, unless you have a friend that uses GoG and have them buy it for you and you give him/her the money for them.

Your best options for a new user is what Braggadar said. Because there is a waiting period for new users, you would have to wait longer than xmas and that would probably defeat your goal of making your kid happy.

I would highly recommend using you credit, debit or paypal to add X amount of money to the "wallet".

Also, DONT!! I repeat DO NOT!! Buy a prepaid credit or gift, or visa whatever cards else they are called at walmart or drug store or anything like those. The reason is because GOG is not located in USA. As in, those cards are 100% invalid outside USA. You cannot get your money back AND you cannot buy what you intended online.

The only way you can use cash to digital credit is Paysafecard and that is ONLY in CVS pharmacies that have a MoneyGram kiosk. Plus you have to jump through so many hoops to get it to work.......I could explain it if you wanted me to. But it is a convoluted mess. Plus the people that work the register will think you are up to no good. Its hard to explain...

That's impressive, in a bleak sort of way. Literally not a single thing you said is factual. Did you have to practice to get so much wrong in eight sentences?

Your comment is trolling. Feel free to continue and prove the point for the moderators further.

Interesting, this i didn't know. Though I've never bought one and it probably mentions this on the back with the agreement when purchasing said card (which is unlikely to be read because of microscopic print, and legalese).

And when you think about it, gift cards are generally for family/friends and it assumes you're in the US.

GameBuyer01: so how do I purchase a coupon for the amount that he can redeem for the games?
Aside from putting money in a wallet, and the unlikeliness of being able to transfer between people's accounts with the wallet funds (and GoG isn't QUITE big enough to have gift cards made with a one-time code to redeem funds...) the next up may be gifting money to their paypal. GoG accepts Paypal (last i checked), or if you have someone you can trust you could send them the money and then have your son PM/DM them with the game they want and they'd use said funds and send them the code, as I'm thinking about it; though that could have it's own issues.

More detail, because you are polite and may be interested:

In the US, the banks are not always "banks". Like PayPal using magical wording to curtail the law regarding banking. But thats a different topic. Point is with every card in the US, sold in chain stores, those cards often explicitly state it is for within US border. While other cards may not, depending on branding, they are the same. So all those Visa, AMEX etc. will not function online if the bank or destination of the money is outside the USA.

Now for the annoying "technically they can" part of the story. You usually have the option to use those same cards outside the USA, with a huge caveat. Which is, you abide by their rules and sell your soul....maybe not that far, but it seems bad either way. No, you have to abide by their rules and supply a social security number linked to the user(fat chance thats not going to be used for illegal who knows what), and you have to also direct a live/active bank account to them as well and then hope nothing bad happens. Which is.....yeah. Good luck with that >_>

The companies that make the cards are pretty shady to be honest and you would have to jump through hoops and still hope it all goes well for the card to be used internationally AND they still don't let you use THAT gift card, they in fact send you a legit card in the mail over several weeks. Which really defeats the point of cash to digital instant credit. Also defeats the point of putting a credit card online, when yes. That is precisely what that would be.

PaysafeCard being a major pain in the butt is the only cash to digital credit I am aware of in the USA. But they provide zero help with how to get the service. Seriously I took a month of back and forth with PSC and they had no f'n clue how to use their own service. I had to blindly fumble through the process. But it does work and if anyone wants to know more about how to use it, just ask me.

The major problem is not the cards not ABLE to function, but the fact that GOG has zero interest moving their banking within the USA. Probably for tax reasons. The other reasons are perhaps the fingers in their pie taking out to much money as a "service", dipping into direct profit. Which makes sense for a small company.
